Two Wayne County Icon Stations Doing The Flip Flop?????

Was told 1150/730 swapping...WGBR goes to 730 WFMC goes to 1150...If this is true its a double edged sword 730 has better coverage downeast because of dial position but 1150 has heritage dial position and it would be tough to rebrand WGBR on 730 after 60 plus years not to mention the cost factor...Would the return be worth the cost???? Again this is just what I was told by someone who is no longer with Curtis but stays in the loop I guess..I see pro's and con's to doing this but we'll see..I love WGBR..Wayne Alley is the best and they do a nice job covering local news in Wayne County..What do you think guys????
Again this is just a rumor..

I'm going to assume that a lot of 1150's listeners have gone to 106.1 and they're scrambling for a solution. I don't see any other reason for this to happen after 60 years.

Yeah Scott I agree that's part of it..I just can't see what real advantage it would give them..WGBR has a loyal audience and moving would be confusing to them plus you're talking big bucks to rebrand at 730 not to mention the same for WFMC's audience..
730 would give WGBR a better downcast signal but can you really do enough business outside of Wayne and Johnston counties to justify it???? Alot of intersting stuff has gone on at CMG East in the last 5 or 6 years...Like I said before I like WGBR alot and if I had a news talker Wayne Alley would be my first hire...Whatever happens I hope WGBR continues the local approach..Even though I don't live in Wayne Co I really respect WGBR for staying true to what they have done for over a half century.....

Not to mention nighttime...while it's not prime time for a talk format, WGBR has 800 watts while WFMC drops to 94 watts. There are some sharp nulls in the 1150 nighttime pattern north of Goldsboro, but I don't see WFMC doing much to remedy that, as their city-grade signal drops off north of town as well. The only possible advantage I see with 730 is daytime in Johnston County, but they're still literally in the shadow of an FM (106.1 high up on the candleabra in Auburn, NC) with Rush and Hannity. They should keep the stations/formats as they are and, if they do anything, buy a FM translator for WFMC to get the black gospel on FM, since WELS 102.9 isn't so strong in Goldsboro and they're well out of WNNL 103.9's range.

Good points RadioDaze....I love talking to intelligent people about radio...I ain't that bright..you brought up some things i didn't even consider...

I know a guy who lives outside that market who knows a guy who lives in that market who says he knows a guy who says the flip is still on for later in the year, maybe even after the first of the year; and that the only way the switch will come together is if FMC goes to an FM translator. ;D

I know a guy who knows a guy who told another guy that there was a guy who was talking to some guy about something he read on the internet. It must be true!

Hey I didn't ask anyone to believe it. And I didn't get this info from some part-time board op. I just happen to know it's going to happen. The GM is pushing hard to make it happen. I'm not sure why there would be interest in this outside Goldsboro anyway.
