Two "What Happened To?" Listings: Tony Pepper and Jason Wright

If I recall correctly, Tony resigned a few months after he got taken off WBZ's 6pm newscast(I think it was '81) when ch.5's Chet and Nat took the lead in the local TV news ratings. He never walked out in the middle of a newscast or anything like that. I think he ended up on WRKO a year later co-hosting morning drive with Janet Jaghelian(sp?).

You may be thinking of Jimmy Myers who is now with WTKK on Saturdays or Sundays. He literally bolted from Ch. 4's set during a live weekend newscast(in '79 or '80). He was very upset he didn't get the promotion to weeknight sports anchor which went to Lobel. Jimmy said what he had to say, flipped his mic and walked right off the set. That's Jimmy being Jimmy.

I follow radio pretty closely and I have to admit I have never heard of Jason Wright. Even though I didn't listen to Oldies 103 much, I thought I knew most of the regular personalities. But, I am pretty sure he doesn't work at Metro Networks. Chris Fama does the Sirius updates for Boston and St. Louis.

Tony Pepper was replaced by Ted O'Brien at WRKO. Reportedly, he was difficult to get along with. Some who worked with him speculated that his declining health had something to do with his mood swings.

He landed at AM 1510 WMRE while the station was under control of a Federal Receiver appointed by the Bankruptcy COURT.

I remember listening to Jason on Oldies 103. He did the later portion (10pm - 2am) of their former "Saturday Night Request Party" show through most of the '90s, sometimes following retired oldies DJ legends such as "Little Walter" DeVenne and Jim Sands on the early evening portion for parts of that stint. Jason also did other weekend shifts, overnights, and fill-ins. It was during an overnight shift that he was known to have walked out (I wasn't listening at that time).

He was fun to listen to, especially his interactions with listeners on the request show. But, saying he "made" the station is pretty far-fetched.

I also remember hearing him doing some traffic reports on WBZ via Metro a few years ago, but not lately.

Well, he's pretty well known now!

(And he has himself to thank!) ;-)

If he was smart, he would carefully construct an explanation and keep it posted on his own website.
