Tx. Radio Hall of Fame

Me & Houston's LEGENDARY Col. St. James had a chat the other day about who we'd like to see make it into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame this year. Here were a few of the names we kicked around. Granted it is kind of "Houston heavy" but a few folks made their way through Big D radio-

Maurice "Crash" Collins Z-107
Bill Moffett 97 Rock
Redbeard Q-102/Dallas
Hal McClain KENR
Wash Allen KCOH
Joe Ladd KIKK
Pam Ivey KIKK/KAUM/KKBQ/KILT
Dayna Steele KLOL
Dave Ward KNUZ
Dan Gallo KILT/KENR/KTHT/KLOL
John Lander KKBQ

I also suggested some largely overlooked news folks-

Bill Grady KLIF/WBAP
Mark Watkins KPLX/KRLD
Chuck Schramek KFMK/KLOL
Scott Hodges KLIF/KNUS
Bill Howell WBAP/WFAA
Mitch Carr KRLD/KVIL/KLUV

The suggestion of Bill Grady is a good one, and there's a Houston connection with him, too. When he (and I) were quite young I turned him down when he applied for a job; nice guy, good pipes but not good execution. "Green" would best describe him. He didn't give up, though. Within a matter of months he was doing evening news at top-rated KILT 610. From there he went to another monster station, San Francisco's KFRC.

You forgot Ron Chapman.

If Ron Chapman's not already in there, he should be..

I second the suggestion of Joe Bagby as well...

And John LaBella & John Rody

Chapman is in.

I believe he went in 2003, just after Rod Roddy died. Some of you may remember the Texas Radio Hall of Fame festivies from that year, which took place at the World Famous Joe T's in Fort Worth. The great Ken Dow made a long and passionate speech regarding the necessity of colonoscopies as he remembered his friend, the beloved Rod Roddy and how he suffered from cancer before his death.

Ron was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in '03. He's now being inducted into the NAB Hall of Fame. Certainly deserves both.
