Know this is a radio board but.....how about TXA 21 now being the over the air home for the three major area teams (sorry Stars/hockey fans). Along with sister station CBS 11, they broadcast Cowboys preseason games and simulcast the regular season cable games (ESPN & NFL Network). Of course they broadcast the Mavs and now starting this season they're broadcasting the Rangers. Has there been another station to have all three at the same time? And there 7pm news is pretty good also. I think thinking they are much better now as a complete independent station then they were as a UPN or whatever affiliate.
KDFI/27 aired two Cowboys in 2007 (simulcasting the cable coverage on NFL Network, like KTXA has done) plus had the over-the-air rights for Rangers and Stars.
In the late '90s, KXTX/39 had the Rangers and Mavs. Hicks was LMAing KXTX at the time in the hopes of using it as a new sports station. I think they had announced plans to shift the Stars their from KDFI and FSN home to KXTX. If I recall, that never happened and the lucrative 10 year deal for Hicks for the Rangers and Stars with FSN/KDFW/KDFI got signed. I assume that deal expired for the Rangers last season...allowing KTXA to pick up the OTA rights. Does the Stars part of the deal expire at the end of this season then?
Fox had the NFL, NHL, and MLB national rights in the late '90s. ABC had NFL via Monday Night Football, the NHL, and NBA in the early 2000s. It's entirely possible KDFW and WFAA have aired 3 franchises in the same season.
Of course, OTA rights are disappearing. The majority of NHL and NBA teams now no longer have over-the-air broadcasts with regional sports outlets offering the money to make them exclusive to cable. Baseball as well with many teams (Red Sox, Pirates, Blue Jays, Rays, Marlins, Padres, Rockies, etc.).
