Tyler-Longview K-LOVE 88.7

With all the excitement about Jack going on, the debut of K-LOVE on 88.7 has kind of gone unnoticed. I've listened a bit - IMHO their music is better than KVNE, but the audio quality is disappointing. Their signal also isn't that great and they are going to get killed when the tropo season heats up. On summer mornings I would regularly hear Houston's KUHF over KTPB.

Calls are still KTPB per the FCC website.

I agree with you on the processing...it does leave alot to be desired.

As for the calls, the FCC must be slow in changing their database because I remember seeing where the KZLO calls had been assigned to them in place of the KTPB calls.

EMF has only requested the KZLO calls (putting them on reserve; they often request calls to put them on hold for stations they are buying...typically the call change occurs soon after they actually close on the property). I would imagine now that the sale has closed, they will soon formally change them.

Although I think the sale is a "done deal," this showed up on the FCC Daily Digest last Thursday:

FM STATION APPLICATIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT OF LICENSE PETITION FOR RECONSIDERATION
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TX BALED-20060518ACO KTPB 34602 EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION Voluntary Assignment of License,
E 88.7 MHZ KILGORE, TX as amended
From: KILGORE JUNIOR COLLEGE
To: EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION
Form 314

Multiple Informal Objections filed.
Informal Objection filed
by Eugene Golden 8/11/06

Petition to Deny filed on 3/2/2007.

It seems a lawyer named Golden, who I believe is in California is the one who filed the latest Petition to Deny.

These informal objections are common, but unless they can show Educational Media has committed serious violations of FCC regulations the objections will be denied. I don't know of any allegations of rules violations against EMF at all - not even minor ones - which is quite an accomplishment for a group that large!

I think it is being filed just to muddy up the waters. Call it sour grapes.

Guess I'll try to be a bit more careful in my reading. :-[

They fight a bit with KTCU over parts of Plano. When KTCU was off the air Sunday, I got pretty good reception in Plano.

I feel vindicated....sort of.

I did some digging in the FCC database. While you cannot key in "KZLO" and get to the information, you can still key in "KTPB" and get there. Once there, I did some poking around and found that the calls have indeed been shown as changed to KZLO.

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/.../call_hist.pl?Facility_id=34602&Callsign=KZLO

Looks like somebody somewhere isn't fully complete with an update to their information in the database.

It's fairly usualy for parts of the FCC's CDBS to be out of date for months.

I know the SOAR people will be angry with me for this...but I like K-Love. Their playlist is just what I'd been hoping for (somewhere between KVNE and KSWP) and their features (artist spotlight type stuff, Top 20, and drop-ins by Jon Rivers) are very similar to the reasons I liked KLJT during its halo years.

That being said, I still like KVNE and KSWP...

So Musicsweep's re-ordered presets are (In no particular order) 1) KAJK 99.3 Jack-FM; 2) KVNE 89.5; 3) KWRW 97.7 (employment purposes) 4) KSWP 90.9; 5) KBJS 90.3 (Bible study lunch break with Charles Stanley and Tony Evans) and 5) K-Love 88.7.

I suspect that a lot of people will. It is very well done. Too bad it isn't local.

I agree with you, Chuck. And I agree with musicsweep.

That's saying something coming from a self-described radio purist.
