Tyler-Longview radio

Just curious what is in the Tyler-Longview market? Possibly driving through next week and want to see what is on and who sounds the best.....I take it KOOI is still on that 1500 ft tower near Jacksonville...(A friend had a 220 ham rptr on it for a while at 800 ft...wonder if the feedline and antenna are still there?)

It should be an interesting year for East Texas Radio. Access 1, AKA: East Texas Radio Group, has sold four stations to Alpha Media. I think the LMA starts today with KOOI, KYKX, KKUS and KOYE. It will be interesting to see what they do with the programming. As you mention, KOOI has the best coverage in the area, and KYKX isn't that far behind. They are selling KCUL AM in Marshall to RCA Broadcasting, LLC. ETRG also owns KFRO-AM and KCUL-FM, which are not a part of the sale. It is unclear what will happen to those two signals, but you could probably buy them for a fairly reasonable price.

KWRW in Rusk is planning to move between Tyler and Kilgore to cover both Tyler and Longview. That move involves a frequency change. Yesterday's FCC Daily Digest indicated that it has been sold. I think I know who purchased it (it's local) but until it becomes public record, I'll keep my mouth shut, since I could be wrong.

In other news, KDOK has a CP for a translator in Henderson (107.9) and also a CP to increase its Longview translator's (101.9) power to a full 250 watts. That should give the little AM station fairly decent coverage, since it already has a 250 watt translator in Kilgore as well as it's 1000 watt AM stick in Kilgore. Chalk Hill Communications which owns KDOK also owns KZQX (AKA: QX-FM) 100.3 Longview, 97.7 Tyler and recently purchased KEBE, 1400 AM in Jacksonville. KEBE is a full simulcast of QX-FM.

I hear rumblings of other significant changes changes it the area so radio in East Texas should be quite a spectator sport for 2015. Happy New Year!.

KWRW will be joining the cluster of KTBB, KYZS, and KTBB-FM once sold (per the FCC filing). KWRW's application is to move to 97.5, still as a C3, changing city of license to Troup.

Chuck congrats on getting the power upgrade CP for 101.9, hopefully that will cover the entire city now.

Now I really wonder what (we know who) will be doing with KWRW in the future, maybe a move of one of his talkers?

I also noticed that Mix 93.1 is calling themselves "Today's Hit Music" now. But I cant tell if they are still Hot AC or a true CHR since the formats are very close musically.

If I were to guess, I suspect that the KWRW stick will supplement KTBB giving it much better coverage in both Tyler and Longview. Sort of the ultimate translator. That would seem like a good business move since a lot of people have no idea what the "AM" button on their radio is for.

That's what I was thinking too. KTBB already has a FM translator at 97.5 (K248CC-FM) for Tyler, but that can be easily shifted to simulcast KYZS.
