Tyler - Longview Spring Arbitron??? Any predictions?

All we can see are 12+ numbers. Anyone know how the other demo's looked?

From what story the 12+ numbers show on allaccess, it looks like KISX, KTYL, and KKUS has good books. KBLZ lost major ground. Looks like the squeeze between KISX on their upper demo and The Breeze on their lower demo has gotten them in a tough situation.

Speaking of the Reynolds group, not sure how 99.3 is paying the electric bill. Actually had their worst book ever...0.8 to 0.5

Reynolds may be trying to just hold on hoping that they get a bump from this fall's Cowboys football broadcasts and the impending format change on KTBB-FM. Can they survive until the fall book? Although I enjoy some of the programming on 99.3, I still think that classic hits would work well there and fill a format hole in the market.

One thing to keep in mind about the Tyler-Longview market is that the majority of stations in the area are not receivable in the entire DMA. It is composed of Gregg, Smith and Cherokee County, which is a very large area. I suspect that things were more accurate when Tyler and Longview were considered separate markets.

Several stations that show up in the ratings are not located in any of those counties. Obviously, they have coverage and listeners in their home area, yet that is not counted. Those that do cover the entire area, like KOOI, get an unfair mathematical advantage when the ratings come out. If you don't have a "flamethrower," you need two full power stations to cover the majority of the DMA.

Stations that don't enjoy that advantage may have respectable listenership, but will never do well in the Arbitron ratings. There must be a better way to figure this out...

You're right, there has to be a better way. The Ranch is a great example of a station that does well in Tyler, but doesn't have much of a signal at all in Longview, hence their reliance on an AM simulcast there (which has little impact, of course).

Tyler and Longview are less than 40 miles from each other but if you ask around, a lot of people would say the two are worlds apart, and it's always been that way.

Prediction that I would like to see is KZQX tied for number 1 with KKUS!! with KBLZ with a 2 share along with KLJT. But that is what I would like to see ratings wise.

I'm told that is called "The Pine Tree Curtain." Whatever it's called, it is very real.
