Channels change primetime lineup

Longview-area television watchers will notice some changes in the channel lineup and programming beginning Feb. 1.
CBS 19, based in Tyler, has purchased rights to UPN primetime programming, which includes shows "Everybody Hates Chris" and "South Beach."
The former UPN affiliate — KLPN — will remain on Longview Cable Channel 4 and its programming will stay the same except for the Monday through Friday primetime slot from 7 to 9 p.m.
For viewers who do not have cable, UPN 54 will change to KLPN 58.
Drew Balch, KLPN program director, said the changes will give television viewers more options because they'll still be able to watch UPN programs and now KLPN, operating as an independent, will be able to vary the evening showings. Court shows are airing on the week nights now.
"It may change to Jerry Springer or Montel Williams, something like that, to add a little excitement. We also plan on doing some locally produced sports stuff," Balch said.
"We have some talks with TJC (Tyler Junior College) about televising some of their games. We'll be the only independent station in the market that can air local sports games — basketball, football, whatever we can get our hands on."
Chuck Launius with Kilgore/Longview Cable TV said subscribers should tune into Channel 10 for CBS 19-UPN beginning Feb. 1.
Market Place, which airs on Channel 10 now, will move to Channel 31, Launius said.
Officials with CBS 19 did not return calls Friday.
