Tyler takes over Renda stations

Tyler apparently took over the Renda stations either yesterday or Monday. I'm hearing there was a massive bloodbath on Britton Rd yesterday afternoon with each station losing at least one full-time talent. Anyone able to confirm anything? I'm hoping it's not true as a lot of the rumored casualties are good talent and good people.

Kent: 8 people on the air staff and support side plus about 5 or sales folks got the pink slip as a "welcome to Tyler" happened. It suffices to say they have established themselves as one of the very worst broadcasters in the state right from day 1.

Not shocked by this at all. Ty Tyler screws over everything he touches, so no surprises here. Heard they let go Shawn Carey, Dave Martin, & Lee Roberts.. All okc veterans. "Local" radio is coming to an end..

Good Morning to all who read this board. My name is Lee Roberts, and up until Tuesday 11/13/12 I was the APD/MD/Mid-day air talent for 107.7 KRXO. I had been with 107.7 KRXO for the last 20 years, and had a total of 22 years with the station. First and foremost, I had a GREAT run. Secondly, I want to make it clear that I did NOTHING to warrent my being let go. It was a business decision that the new owners made. Dave Martin and Shawn Carey were also told they were not wanted by new owners of KOMA & KMGL. I'm grateful for my time at KRXO, and now it's time to move on to my next radio home. If anyone who reads this knows of ANY gigs, Full-time or part-time, please let me know. You can find me on Facebook, my email is [email protected]. I would put my phone number on here, but that's probably not a good idea. Everyone will have their own opinions of what went down, but I'm not bashing anyone or company. I want to go on record as telling the truth of my exit and I can hold my head high of my accomplishments while at KRXO. Thanks for reading.

Lee, You will be truly missed on KRXO's airwaves. All of the air talent most of the others I'm sure certainly didn't deserve get laid off by these "good Christian Oklahoma family broadcasters". It just amazes me that someone that just signed up for 40M dollars worth of debt would be worrying about a little bit of payroll while risking hurting their investment. it's beyond stupid IMHO.

It's the "Tyler Small Market Radio In A Big City" Road Show. They will ruin the Renda stations.

Good luck to all let go by Tyler. I was going to make the same point as OKCRadioGuy about them taking on all that debt and they walk in and start firing people. Just crazy. At the risk of sounding like a left wing loon, obviously those loans were all for capital - not labor. Ty's not hurting. What a jerk.

Amen to that. Ty has a ego problem in that he wants to become worthy of the Northside elite. He hopes his new found toys will provide that status. I have news for him. They still think of him as a South OKC new-money guy. When the money flow slows down because times get hard due to him buying toys and ruining them, look for those nice Northside elite to kick him to the curb. I'm being harsh because it's the truth and he needs to hear it. He needs to forget the Northside elite. He stepped off into something he actually knows not how to handle. The best thing he could do is simply let the remaining people with a clue at his new found toys do their job, unlike the fool that used to own them. If he wants to end up selling them at a real fire sale then just keep dinking with it.

Also should be noted.. they let Dave Martin Go, so they could put Lynn Waggnoner on the air at KOMA afternoons. Sadly, Lynn has proven to know NOTHING outside of Country music, so that will be a flop too.

So if Ty's 10/10 on the scumbag scale, where does Tony rank? Seems like you never hear about him. And what about that nitwit PD they had down there, is he still around? Probably Ty's BFF, I'd gather...

Honestly, I don't hear much bad about Tony. He seems to stick to what he knows: Signs. He seems to do ok with that & be happy with it. Also very personable guy, and much nicer & way more normal than Ty from what I have seen. Ty is greedy & has the "poor little rich boy" complex.. As for the PD, Kevin, my guess is he has dirt on them somehow..otherwise he would have never kept his job all those years doing as piss poor as he has..

It sounds like its going to be a repeat of what Cumulus did to Citadel's stations. They turned some great sounded popular stations into small-market crap. It looks like four more OKC stations are going down the same road.

Kevin, that's it! Yep, you're right on the money with the latter two; never met Ty, but as you say, mutual dirt may keep he and Kevin wedded. Hate to see a nice guy like Tony stuck in that, even if he's off doing his signs; I can vouch that breaking away from something you thought you were going to do for the rest of your life can have a great outcome! Run Tony Run! Still, I'd like to see people like O'Brien and McCoy bite it too; they are just so over. I don't mind O'Brien in mornings, but his musty programming is making me sleepy just sitting here thinking about it!

Up to this point Tony Tyler has stayed out of the radio end of things for the most part. I'm guessing that'll continue. Overall most of the things he has been directly involved with (non-broadcast)have been fairly successful.

Speculations and “conclusions” abound about the new Tyler Media. But for anyone who might be interested in a perspective from someone who is actually there, I can report that morale is high! Everyone seems happy and optimistic about the future with this wonderful, proudly local, organization. Certainly I am. :)

Additionally, since Lynn Waggoner has for nearly four decades done only country, where on earth has he “proven” that he knows nothing else? He has professionally done what he has always been charged to do – country radio – with much success! To presuppose that he does not know other music and will be a flop on KOMA is ludicrous. He has always loved Top 40 radio and long been a KOMA fan. Besides, classic hits and classic country are closely related. With great expectations, I am excited to have Lynn on board and happy to be working with him!

On another note, it seems almost laughable when a guy whose station tops 12+ Total Week, 25–54 Total Week, and 25–54 Morning Drive – and who has a vibrant happy staff – is anonymously called childish names.

Thank you for the candid peak "behind the curtain". Too many people these days are afraid of change. As you know and I know after 40 years in radio the only way to survive is having an ability to adapt. It's not 1970 so the methods we used then are different today. Whether Voice tracking or having to wear many what were considered non-traditional hats we survivors have learned to embrace change.

I have enjoyed listening to KOMA for many many years, whenever I cross the Red River I set the frequency to 92.5 and wait for it. My only "wish" is for the return of the simulcast or even better bring back "The Big 1520" as an OLDIES station to sell in combination with the FM "CLASSIC HITS"...

I know dream on ;D

On the idea of "OLDIES" on 1520...
If you dig back in the Oklahoma thread (http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.php?topic=218878.0) you'll see my suggestions for a "full service" OLDIES station that could be done for a no/low cost. Pass them along to Kent Jones, at a minimum for the humor value ;D

Please tell Kent Jones I said "Howdy" and here's to your continue success ;D
If you run across Charlie Cusack, tell him howdy as well. We go back to the days of KLEO and KEYN in Wichita...
