I was visiting family in Tyler over Christmas, and wanted to ask why there isn't any CHR? You've basically got Mix and The Blaze. Both are absolutely great stations, but there seems to be a huge gaping hole for a CHR in the market!

I had to keep flipping between the two stations when something too rhythmic came on the blaze, and when something too 80's came on Mix. Don't get me wrong... I do admire the 80's, but why, why, why, in market 149, is there no CHR anymore?!

107.3 was a CHR and getting trounced pretty good til they switched. IMO, there is a MUCH bigger hole for ROCK in Tyler/Longview. If somebody, ANYBODY would put on a rock station with ANY kind of talent, they'd own the genre.

I'd love to see a full CHR or a rock/alternative (think KTBZ-Houston) put in Tyler... but I'm more leaning toward the CHR... looks like 99.3 lost the race of Rhythmic AC's to CC's 107.3, so why not be a better CHR than 107.3 was? haha. just my 2 cents......

Hell, you're more likely to see 8 or 9 more stations flip to country before that happens!

I agree we need both a CHR and Rock format in East Texas. I would think 99.3 would be the station to flip, but how soon they will do it is a mystery. How long are they locked in to a contract with Tom Joyner?

If you do flip it to CHR, who do you get for a morning show? One of the reasons 107.3 didn't make it with that format is because Kraddick on MIX took too much away. If you don't have a strong morning show, you might as well just throw in the towel. You could get a "local" morning show, but let's face it...they don't seem to work in East Texas for some reason. Listeners in East Texas value entertainment more than they do localism. Look at the BLAZE...they dropped their local morning show and picked up Doug Banks to try to compete with Steve Harvey on 107.3. Charlie O and Amy are another good example. Their morning show was great, but for some reason it just didn't work.

Weather you like it or not, Clear Channel brought in some pretty big names for morning shows...Kraddick, John Boy & Billy, Harvey, and Big D and Bubba. Listeners are use to turning on the radio and hearing big name celebrities and artists being interviewed. When all they are getting on other stations is a little music and local news and weather, they are bored. It's changed the radio landscape in East Texas.

There may be a few good local morning shows in East Texas, but for the most part it's pretty bad.

One thing to watch for is how many of those syndicated CC morning shows stay on in 2007. Remember, Tyler, Lufkin, Texarkana, and those places will no longer be in the CC fold....These sweetheart syndication deals are about to go out the window when the ownership changes.

They're actually owned by Premiere Radio, which is owned by CC. But if you'll look at all of those morning shows affiliates, they're not strictly Clear Channel. So, no.... the syndication deals will not be affected.

That's true, and as far as I know the only "perk" that CC stations enjoy is the first right of refusal for Premiere programming. Kraddick and JB & Billy are on the air on a lot of non-cc stations around the country. I was not aware that Big D and Bubba were syndicated by Premiere however. When did that happen?

I'm not saying they can't still run them because they're not CC stations anymore.....I'm saying the prices will be going up. And they'll be goin up QUIIIIITE a bit in a couple of cases.
