UCONN MAD ABOUT GAMES ON ESPN-U

There are plenty of schools in Connecticut that are much better academically than UCONN that get ZERO coverage.

Ummmm, aside from Yale, which schools would these be? Pony up...

As an academic institution, UCONN is quite well rated - particularly for a state university. Some small private colleges in the state may have an individual program here or there which is at or above UCONN's level. However, as an overall institution, a collection of academic programs, none are even close (aside from the aforementioned Yale). And, even Yale has it's limits as UCONN offers many more programs of study.

Besides, UCONN's athletic programs have become Connecticut's statewide "professional" team, much as big universities in the south and midwest are in their respective states. And, that's a great thing because it gives Connecticut something that neither New York or Boston really have.

Comcast does cover much of the state of Connecticut. So UCONN is kinda right. As for WCTX/WTNH they got most of the mens basketball when CBS or ESPN isn't covering the game and they also have the UCONN football. And CPTV has the UCONN women basketball when ESPN or ESPN2 aren't airing the game. Its werid seeing WCTX and WTNH caring UCONN while they are in New Haven. Im hoping the product is as good as it was when WTXX and WTIC-TV had UCONN.

And this has what to do with college athletics?

ESPN is using brand name programs like UConn to put pressure on the local cable companies to carry ESPNU. What gets Hathaway's goat is this: UConn is ranked in the top 20, they are in 1st place in the Big East, and are an up and coming team. He is frustrated that ESPN has finally hit the big time in football and ESPN is holding their games ransom.

Mind you there will be four men's basketball games on ESPNU as well that the majority of CT cannot see. Also people who have ESPN Full Court/ESPN GamePlan cannot see these games either. For now, only people with Cox or with a dish can see the games.

WTNH had UConn Men's Basketball in the 90s, produced by the company that later became ESPN Plus.

I remember that. WTNH cut a lot of ABC programming out for UCONN basketball. This time im sure most of it will be on WCTX so I don't know why they say WTNH. Now a reason to watch WCTX 59 aka My TV 9. Hopefully WCTX uses a good bug or doesn't use one at all during the games. WTXX had a good bug during when they were WB 20 as it was trasparent.

UConn has to get over itself? What? Ranked 13th in the nation.......

ESPN's actions here are pretty disgusting. If they hadn't bought this game, it would be on local television. Their gameplan now is to create new channels, and make the cable companies pay for them or feel the heat from their customers. Very sad, the customer loses the most.

Look at what has been happening with the NFL Network and Comcast. They moved the channel to the (more expensive) sports tier, and it has drawn little ire - yet. Wait until they start showing key regular season games later this month and we'll see what happens.

For example, i think that the Patriots' last game of the regular season is on NFLN. For all those Pats fans in RI & CT (who can't get WCVB via cable or OTA), that will be a rude awakening. It's greed on the parts of the NFL and Comcast, pure and simple.

The UCONN issue is just another skirmish in this ongoing war over money and who gets the most honey from the honeypot. One thing is for certain: none of us will see any!
