UH OH, Dayton!!!

Main Line has 5 stations. Only 2 of them are performing well. WROU being the best, then HOT 1029. Fly and Click are both doing minimal numbers and ESPN has its little fanbase but it's ahead of WONE of course so they'll leave it be. If they put Easy on Fly or Click, I really don't see it performing any better. Dayton already has 2 stations that cater to that demographic. 94.5 Lite FM and Big 106.5. They both play those classics that are good for the workplace. I can see why Main Line would go after CC, but it's very unlikely that Easy would really succeed. If they would wanna place it somewhere, I would put it on the bigger signal, 92.9 and then flip Click to Adult CHR similar to G101-3 in Richmond. That would put it against Channel and Mix both and grab the listeners who go between Hot and Channel. Dayton just doesn't seem like the market where Adult Hits or Modern AC works. The X is falling more and more with its flip from Active Rock to Alternative. We'll see what happens by the time the next book comes out.

There's no reason 92.9, with that huge signal, should be doing bad. They need to dump Adult Hits & do something else, what I'm not sure. They lost me as a listener long ago. Click is okay, but the initial fans that liked it when it launched have tired of it & moved on. I only listen to Q102 anymore, & occasionally Click. Putting Easy on 101.5 wouldn't do any better than Click. Putting Easy on 92.9 would put a dent in Lite...maybe. Z & Channel when it was on 94.5 did similar numbers 12+, although Z did well demo wise. Ljo, I do like your idea. Leave WROU, Hot, & WING alone, but do something else with Fly & Click. We shall see what happens, although I expect a format change won't happen.

For what it's worth....in the Fall 2011 ratings book WXEG did a 4.1 and CLICK did a 1.0. Fall 2012, WXEG is down to a 2.4 and CLICK is at a 2.1. One reason Main Line wouldn't flip CLICK.

FLY did well in it's demo. 12+ matters as much as my left thumb to an agency.

Clear Channel is pretty close to striking a deal on 94.5/106.5 what I hear. Rumor has it a group from Indiana, some small radio/tv company looking to expand their footprint. Not sure who.

Were 94.5/106.5 sold, is it a given that format changes would be in the works?

With that in mind, would it make sense for someone else in town to go after the former 94.5/106.5 audience? Perhaps with something along the lines of Easy in Louisville?

Just asking. Just speculation. Well aware of the upper demo issues with both formats at 94.5/106.5.

Fly did well in its demos? That's not what I heard. Fly is down.

The music is ok on Fly but only ONE air personality (am I right?)
OK it's a local takeoff on JACK FM..but could be a lot better than what it presently is. "Click" should have remained as Kiss Country in Springfield and havent listened to WING since Kirkie retired...nobody ever babysits 1410 AM anymore from what I have read in previous posts...and is a deadbeat station which Mainline could (probably) care less about.

Hard to believe 23 years ago 92.9 as Z-93 was the #1 station in Dayton...and 23 years later it would be getting beat by a 6000 watt Class A signal in demo. Unreal. Also, kirkiefan, yes, Danielle is the only air personality they have full time. BC used to track a Saturday shift(He's also the Production Director, or was). I'm sure that horrid over the air sound that sounds worse than a factory stereo on a beat up Pinto isn't helping matters either. The only station that puts out a worse OTA sound is WNKU. I'm guessing in both cases it has to do with their STL. Their engineer, Gene Simmons, left Main Line quite some time ago, so ML might not even have an engineer on staff. I'm starting to wonder how little ML cares for their stations, or if they're actually bigger el cheapos than CC?

Yes Danielle is still on the air during the week and BC is on Saturdays (and I called to see if he was still there during the week) BC is still the Production and Imaging Director for Main Line Dayton. I spoke with him and couldn't believe he's been there for 15 years now. He says he still loves radio and what he does at Main Line.

I asked about the sound issues that Fly was having and he said that they were having processer issues, but it was fixed this past weekend. I listened last night and it sounds much better. Thats my two cents :)

Something for you guys to consider:

This week, Mainline began what is apparently a major TV buy with a newly produced spot for Fly 92-9.

The new spot probably cost them around $10,000. The TV buy could be 6 figures before it's all done.

Does a company spend that kind of money on a station that's about to flip formats?

Think about it...

I love a good rumor just like the rest of you, but I suspect this one may have been just that...a rumor.

Caught the spot Monday night on Big Bang Theory.

Who's to say that a TV buy wasn't the "something" that was about to happen? Frankly, I love how MTHBSTR has played this. Very entertaining.

Sounds like Fly is here to stay. No sane company would spend that much moolah on a station they're about to blow up. Any word on when the spots will begin airing?

I had heard something was up, that's all. I really didn't know what it was but I knew it had to do with 92.9.
Thanks for passing along this info though MTHBSTR! Who knows, maybe 92.9 was going to flip at one point before they bought the spots on TV? Had they put Easy Rock on 92.9, they could've perhaps crushed Lite, since 92.9 can be picked up in office buildings & 94.5 can't, although they would've been aiming for those upper demos with that format.
