Saw a story tonight on Channel 7 about OO and the FCC regarding the alleged jamming of WPAP. There weren't too many details in the story....Just that they had 30 days to respond to a letter. Anyone know what is going on?

I'm no broadcast engineer (wouldn't mind learning basics though), but isn't an exciter super-weak? Like running a 100watt transmitter to overpower a 50,000 watt station?

The transmitter was a 1000 watt transmitter from what I have heard. You have to understand that WPAP's transmitter is about 25 miles north of Panama City and 30 miles from Panama City Beach. The 1000 watt "jammer" was located right on Thomas Drive where the OO studios are. The 1000 watt transmitter would override WPAP's signal for about a 2-3 mile radius of the OO studios. Say you lived in Springfield or Callaway, you wouldn't have heard the jamming, but if you were in St Andrews, by the college, or on the beach as far west as Edgewater Beach, the jammer would have prohibited you from picking up WPAP.

Did I explain that OK?
