Uh Oh. Will another one bite the dust?

EMF is taking over Nashville's 98.3 in a multi-market trade with iHeart. The station has been a ton of formats over the years. Currently, it is airing the WLAC-AM talk format. Looks like we will get our 14th or 15th semi-listenable (signal-wise) Christian format station. This signal is better than many of the others in the city. Guess I will leave it at that and hope for some comments.

Of course iHeart is now owned primarily by its creditors who are looking to find ways to get their money back. They've been liquidating some of the Aloha Trust stations 9the ones that have been in there for over ten years!) Anyone who's been waiting for a fire sale, this may be your chance. So this leaves the folks in Nashville scrambling for another way to put WLAC on FM. They're being killed by WTN.

The 98.3 did not have enough time to catch on, but you are correct. WLAC is basicallly DOA. Even with your favorite financial guy from Nashville.

WSM-AM is not much better. Hell, Cumulus has yet to get the tower lights back on the historic Brentwood tower. How hard is that?

Yep. You know the market better than I do. You are right. Late night, sleepless in Nashville move. Not sure what they call themselves these days other than irrelevant. They have also let the building at the tower site get into bad shape. Maybe there is a plan. Certainly not the good corporate neighbor they once were.

That historic tower sits on very valuable land. I foresee a day when it's moved to another spot.

Tibbs, we just about need a scorecard to keep up with all the musical chair format changes on our Nashville-area translators. I checked 97.5, because I knew that "alt" had moved there from 98.3, but 97.5 is now "Hallelujah 97.5," with an urban gospel sound that reminded me of "The Light" at 102.1 before it became "The Ville."

I remember when WSM was toying with its format change, it was suggested that some country music stars pool their resources to buy the station. That never happened. But maybe now some rich local radio guys will pool their money to buy the land that the tower sits on. (Nope, not very likely either.)

"Rich" and "radio guys" are words that can never be used together

True dat. But you saw my disclaimer at the end there, no?

At any rate, the Blaw-Knox tower has a rich history to it, and some preservationists (radio guys, whether rich or not) will be wanting to try and save it.

I could see it as a piece of art in my house. Might require me to take a window or two out......

By the way, congrats to Mix for biting the dust and grabbing it's highest summer number in a few years. Anyone looked at the numbers? Mary may need another trip to Nashville to discuss the importance of having at least one station in the Top 5. Cumulus is surprising me again, and not in a good way.
