uhhh G ? what is goin on ???

anyone listening to G105 right now? ... what is going on with the audio ?
maybe it's me radio. everything sounded fine untill geller announced a song by Cartel, and halfway through it, the audio 'dropped' in loudness, came back up, and has been spitting, sputtering ever since. its been going on since around 11:35 tonight.

what is going on here?

Stunting for "105 The Wash" with a sound effects bed under the music?
Maybe they will get into some "raging against the machine" imagery.

As long as they don't go country........ :'(

G105 often has audio problems. The music gets distorted and muffled, and then it sounds like someone's banging on the radio--I'm not kidding.

But really, why is this surprising?

This wouldn't have anything to do with G105's--- and Sunny's, or whatever the new 93.9 will be named--- proposed move this spring to the new tower, does it? I don't know if 93.9 will be downgrading its signal when it finally moves from Burlington to Cary, but I heard that G's 100,000-watt signal would be downgraded to 78,000 watts, while The Rooster, who is supposed to move to Knightdale, drops its signal from 100,000 watts to 80,000.

highly doubt it.

and again..i doubt G105 will move. there's two reasons why i doubt it.. 1) they move east any farther it will cause an issue with the Havelock 105.1 signal... 2) G105's tower is located in an ideal place right now. it covers the enitre metro of Raleigh (not much farther down east tho) and much of the Triad too. I do not see any point in moving east just to cover Goldsboro a little more? please...that's not even considered coverable by Raleigh stations.

It doesn't really matter If G105 moved to Goldsboro or Greenville--**nobody** would listen. Even in the Eastern suburbs of Raleigh everyone listens to Bob933. No offense meant at all, but there's a big difference between the sound of WDCG and WERO--WDCG fits the area they're in now perfectly, including parts of the triad. Like I said, from Smithfield and Zebulon east 93.3 will probably always rule. No point in messing with that.

Yes, G105 might ["might"] benefit from better central coverage of Raleigh. But I don't think that justifies losing what they have in the triad, because few people down east care.

You have to understand the ratings. G-105 is a Raleigh-Durham market station and listeners in the Triad don't do them much good, if any! Their less than two share in Greensboro does no good. They would be better served by trading the Greensboro listeners for ones in Raleigh and the RDU market. Add the same share WDCG has in Greensboro to the Raleigh number and you have a solid #2 12+ station.

I understand, but how much of G's proposed coverage really counts for Raleigh? They can already be heard in all of Raleigh--it's just as soon as you leave Raleigh east you've got problems. Perhaps you're right--but I figured the move was to accomidate places "east" of Raleigh.

I heard bob a long time ago talking about how the tall buildings in down-town Raleigh would better be served with the new plan. Perhaps that is what you're talking about, in which case I would stand corrected. Stilll, WDCG can be heard in all of Raleigh just like WUNC--it's just when heading east on any highway that coverage fades away.

On a related but rather off-topic note, why are almost all radio streams extremely poor on the Internet? 32 KBPS to 64 KBPS is the standard, and it's awful. Radio over the internet has a long ways to go If FM radio stations can't produce anything more than a 48 KBPS stereo sound online. That's laughable at best.

You know, I have been thinking the same thing as you posted..I can't get sh*t on the internet and I have all the Bells and Whistles that are possible.. I was just trying to listen to a station in Myrtle Beach and the damn thing loads after about 30 seconds and starts over.. It's pitiful..

BS1012, when I said Raleigh, I should have said the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill market. Counties like Johnston, Wilson, and Wayne are part of that metro and G-105 would be well served by improving the signal in that part of the market.

I wonder how G will adjust to the new 93.9 Kiss FM? Much of Kiss's playlist is older jams, but they are also playing some of the current ones also played on G105... way different from the softer urban music played on 105.7 Kiss in GSO...

Unfortunately, I don't have access to an Arbitron to check the map, and they don't list them on their web site, but my point stands - a county in the Raleigh-Durham metro is worth a great deal to a station like G-105 while a county in the Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point market means nothing to them.

Following counties are listed by the census bureau as the Raleigh Metro - although Arbirton does not always follow the Census maps.

* Chatham County, NC
* Cumberland County, NC
* Durham County, NC
* Edgecombe County, NC
* Franklin County, NC
* Granville County, NC
* Halifax County, NC
* Harnett County, NC
* Hoke County, NC
* Johnston County, NC
* Lee County, NC
* Mecklenburg County, VA
* Moore County, NC
* Nash County, NC
* Orange County, NC
* Person County, NC
* Sampson County, NC
* Vance County, NC
* Wake County, NC
* Warren County, NC
* Wayne County, NC
* Wilson County, NC

While in a way I can understand what you're saying, I really, really don't think that just because WDCG will be able to reach east will mean they get more listeners. Everyone from Johnston county on will probably always stick with Bob933, with or without G105 as competition.

How far does Bob 933's signal reach? One time, driving along I-540, I was able to get it all right, but in my area the signal gets drowned out by 93.1 The Wolf out of Winston-Salem...

All it takes is one diary in a county not previously served to make a difference. If I were G-105 (or any Raleigh station) I would trade two Triad diaries for one in my home metro any day!
