OK guys 'n gals, I've been kind of back in the area for a week now, doing a little relocating...and pretty well shell shocked at how poor radio reception has gotten. Based for the moment just east of the famous Red Bridge, there is:
-more static then I can remember on AM
-more dropouts and 'can't gets' then ever on FM
-and YES we're talking area signals!

As a former Bristolian perched right downtown from my grandmother's early 18th Century house with 'the oldest front door in RI' I can remember one of the best features of living there (or pretty much anywhere in the state) was the fabulous reception. Yeah, dials were less crammed then, true; but now, I'll tune in WPLM-FM for instance (always had a killer signal) which has been a long time old favorite of mine and drive down the west bay and...whoops?...where'd they go? I could still pick them up on the hills of Ekonk (in CT, guys, right over the state line and NO relation to Seekonk!)

Obviously by this post I'm not an engineer (left that job up to buddies like Gene Faltus) and with the onset of HD (again, total neophyte here) and the promises of 'better, stronger, truer' I hear (doesn't seem to resonate with some of you though according to posts) I'm leaning toward the belief that radio en route is more akin to the dreaded cell phone: go 50 ft in any direction and lose signal.

Unless we're having a helluva sunspot season, or a car radio in a 2007 Chevy is outdated already, I'd say there's a problem.

Anybody want to 'clear the air?', especially you longtime RI radioheads of old like yours truly?

Thankfully the old guard (PRO & clan, HJJ/SNE & clan, etc) still have most of their signals in tact. But, for reach, I'm missing those coveted LI/NYC stations from my former perch in Mystic!
