UK Music Hall Of Fame

Has anyone seen this years ceremony on VH1?

Wow, they're just NOW getting Led Zeppelin in? Then, it was just Jimmy Page there to accept...thank god he's off the booze, plenty of gray hair but at least he looks healthy again. But what about the garage band that attempted "Communication Breakdown"? Christ, I had the barrel in my mouth...

Could it be that the mighty Zep is more highly regarded in the states than in England?

wangchung,

On the surface, it would seem like a snub and a glaring omission on the part of the UK Music Hall of Fame. However according to Wikipedia, the UK Music Hall of Fame only began in 2004. Inductes that year were:

There were five founding members, one from each decade from the 1950s to 1990s:

Elvis Presley
The Beatles
Bob Marley
Madonna
U2

In addition, the public were asked to select one further act from each decade, from five lists of ten nominees. The five members chosen by the public in October 2004 were:

Cliff Richard and The Shadows
The Rolling Stones
Queen
Michael Jackson
Robbie Williams

In 2004 (the first year) Zep was nominated for induction and competed against Queen, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Abba, The Bee Gees, The Clash, David Bowie and the Sex Pistols. Based on the publics' vote, Queen beat out Zeppelin.

In 2005, the 70's artist nomination went to Pink Floyd...and now finally in 2006 it went to Led Zeppelin.

Certainly a well-deserved honor to say the least.

Gotcha, didn't understand the induction process, thanks!

They sure have a love for Queen/Freddie over there don't they?

Your right. Nothing against Queen (not my personal favoritie), but I don't see how they get voted in ahead of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Then again when you leave the voting open to the public, you never know what you're going to get.

Hey, at least the Brits didn't vote in Abba or the Bee Gees first! That would have been cause for breaking off all ties and diplomatic relations with England :D
