Ultimate Sports Show

Pretty simple, really. CC pulled the plug, after not speaking to any of us for the past 2 months. Heck, I spent 5 full days, 10 hours a day in the B'ham building back before Christmas and got maybe 20 minutes of face-time with the powers-that-be. Trust me, we saw it coming. Even made plans for it, but more on that later.

Bottom line is, new MKT MGR looks like a hero by dumping the expense and bringing in Herb. Just too bad he never even spoke to the star of the show. Never once made as much as a phone call to Snake. But those of us who have spent any time in this business can't be surprised by that. Only disappointed in the lack of character and integrity that exists in our hallways these days.

Anyways, not sure if they plan to syndicate the new thing or not. Pretty sure B'ham is all they really care about. Like him or not, FB is a force in afternoons there and you're not going to undo what he's accomplished in 15 years with ANYTHING, if you only give it 11 months.

So we're huddled up this weekend, finalizing our next plan. For the past 8 years, Grace Unlimited has been producing and syndicating Sports Talk radio programming, and that's what we'll continue to do. Stay tuned!

Hey Mike:

Dude I am sorry to hear about the show. You guys seemed to be getting a feel for everything. Hey in a strange way I can relate. You guys will land...it was a good show and you guys are class acts. Talk to you soon.

Allow me to add to the 'condolences' concerning The Ultimate Sports Show. I figured something had to be up because punching the TUSS web address redirected me to the WERC homepage. I didn't have high expectations for the show, expecting it to be another aural version of a redneck message board. I was pleasantly surprised to hear intelligent guest interviews and actual sports coverage beyond the confines of Tuscaloosa and Auburn--they'd actually go 'down the street' with interest in what UAB was doing. ;)

Ironically, it might have been the intelligence and relative depth to the show that hurt it in the first place. Lord knows it hasn't been coming from WJOX nor Finebaum for the past 15 years. Granted, TUSS wasn't All Things Considered or anything, but from a usable content standpoint, it stood out.

I don't have anything against Herb Winches (if that's who they're eventually bringing in), but he won't bring anything new to the table. But such recycling is life as far as Birmingham radio goes.

Herb Winches will debut 2/18 on WERC. There will be syndication available from my understanding.
