UNC Wilmington to start Internet Radio Station in April...

Many years ago, the University Of North Carolina at Wilmington had a over the
air campus station, WLOZ, but signed off due to a drug scandal.
Then they tried "cable radio" which faded away.
After that, they attempted a small over the air station again, but that failed.
Now with just weeks left in this year's Spring Semester, this school will be
launching by the internet, which is where many colleges and universites will
do in the coming years, because of costs.
The web address will be....www.hawkstreamradio.com.

The first station on the UNCW (then still called Wilmington College) campus was WILC - a carrier current station. Studio was in an office inside the original Student Union building on the mail quad. That station go into trouble running a long wire antenna on the roof and using a low power transmitter to try and reach car radios! Is radio at UNCW doomed?

Best wishes to those who will try again!

How long was the FCC-licensed WLOZ actually on-air and at what frequency? I remember an over-the-air but unlicensed WLOZ on, I think, 89.1 in the early 2000s that was only audible in the immediate campus area.

Hello. Ok, the administrator has a message in red that this topic is old, meaning
nobody has replied to it in more than four months. But I can't help myself, and I
will keep this post short. It's cool to remember that I was a DJ in the 80's,
if only at the college level(best volunteer work ever!). Before the reign of the CPU,
and the DJ's booth had two turntables and ads were on tape.
Less than six months after I left UNC-W, there was the scandal. It did have to do
with contraband, a station "employee", and I'll just leave it at that. It's ancient history
anyway. LOZ had a ton of vinyl. We all loved to rock, most of us.
