uncensord film on WLOO-35.2

Soul of the South network is running the 1978 film "A Hero ain't nothing but a sandwich". A film about a 13 year old herion user. The film has streams of foul language including the F-Word. I'm surprised in hearing this since this is an over-the-air TV station. The only other films I can remember seeing uncut on OTA TV were "Saving Private Ryan" and "Shindlers List". If my memory is correct WDBD once ran "Deer Hunter" uncut and uncensored back in the 1980's. It's still not every day that you hear the "F" word on broadcast. I'm surprised someone doesn't report this, since this is not a "fleeting" word by accident but a scripted movie. Maybe Soul of the South got a print of the film didn't screen it first.

There was also a scene with Cicily Tyson giving her teen son a bath, with fairly extended male nudity. That's something you don't see on TV very often especially of an underage child.

Did it air late at night? There's more leeway for such things after the watershed, or whatever it's called. Only other excuse could be cultural/historical relevance (a la Saving Private Ryan). Otherwise, some screwed up, but good.

My guess is that it came on around 9pm central. I watched about 45 minutes of it but went to be a little after 10pm, and it was still on. Probally went off around 11. It had quite a few "sh*t's" and "F*** you's" in it which is quite jarring to hear over broadcast. I use an antenna and don't have cable so I seldom hear that on TV. According to IMDB, the main charactor is 13 years old which makes the nude scene with him a bit surprising since Soul of the South didn't fuzz it out like most channels do. I didn't see any frontal nudity, because he kept his hand over his naughy bits, unless it went by very quickly. But his bare bottom was on the screen for quite a while. The actor looked a little too muscular to be 13 and his date of birth says 1971 so that would have made him 16 or 17 in 1978. However movies are often released a year or more after they are filmed so my guess is he was maybe 14 or 15 since his voice had not changed. I didn't see anything that actually offended me that much, I was just a little surprised with the "F" bombs being thrown around over the air. The original rating of the film was PG. PG 13 did not exist in 1978.
