Unconfirmed-Most KDWN staffers will remain

A usually reliable source tells me Beasley has now had contact with KDWN talent and most will still be on air August 1. For how long or indefinitely I do not know as this has not been totally confirmed as of this posting. This would be good news that was not expected.

From Inside Radio:

------------------------------------------

Beasley Broadcasting of Las Vegas will be adding a 50,000 watt AM radio station to its 3 FM cluster on September 1st.

We are hiring a General Sales Manager and a full staff of Account Executives. High performance AE’s will be empowered to sell the entire cluster of radio stations and will be among the highest paid in the market.

This is in an incredible opportunity for radio’s best and brightest sales people.

-------------------------------------------

Any ideas on format?

Tru Truman the Hawker hawkins said they "will be on through August" and that's all he knows...(he had a weekend show on Beasley's kjul....he said that on the air in reponce to a caller....I thought they were going sports?

Terry Anderson announced tonight on his 9 PM Sunday show out of KRLA/Los Angeles that his show has been renewed for a least one month through the end of August on KDWN.

I have heard several KDWN hosts such as Ken Stahl, Pete Moss, and Jim Dallas say they will make the move to East Tropicana on Tuesday. They all sound like they don't quite know what to expect when they get over there.

Several callers have mentioned that they have contacted Beasley headquarters in Naples FL to give their input, defend their favorite hosts, etc. Apparently, Beasley has never received so much feedback before a station takeover.

A caller asked Ken Stahl if the station was going to switch to all-sports? Ken said that rumor is "somebody's pipe dream". He seems pretty convinced they will stay talk, he also mentioned the possibility of a call letter change.

Maybe Beasley has tallied up how much KDWN makes off the time-brokered stuff now on the air? Maybe they saw how well KXNT is doing and decided the market can support KDWN with talk?

It should be interesting to see what happens. It does sound like September first might be when the format will change, if it does.

I'd think they would be able to put together a talk lineup during the day, keep Savage, and move the time-brokered programs to nights and weekends. But looking at what Beasley does with their other AMs, it's possible they'll go for even more time-brokered junk, if that's possible. Maybe they'll add pay for play preachers into the mix.

To bring entire air staff over for 1 month seems highly unlikely as Beasley easily could have notified Radio Nevada Inc. that as of Aug 1 they would be taking over 720 frequency and transmitter site and using their own people and equipment and spare the trouble of KDWN moving anything to the E.Tropicana address. I doubt there is any equipment worth moving. Any one know if Beasley cluster is totally digital?

Beasley probably doesn't have all the talk-specific equipment in house. Whether KDWN goes sports or stays brokered, it will need the same equipment for local talk shows. The move-in means nothing as to Beasley's future plans.

Remember, these folks blew up WWDB, a 25 year heritage talker in Philadelphia that was on FM, meaning it was well positioned to catch younger demos in the 21st century as IPods and other media cut into the FM music audience. If they would take out DB, they won't think twice about doing the same to KDWN.

Re: Unconfirmed-Most KDWN staffers will remain edwards to Wisconson

Mark Edwards said he will be on til friday...he said he is moving to Wisconson..."a small town where even the fast food workers are white" (his words) he said he may do a weekly brokered or internet show on illegal immigration....regardless of what people think of immigration...kdawn or Mark Edwards... his show was something innovative....and new...and he should be given credit for breaking new ground on radio

Ditto to what DL just said, Mr. Edwards did a wonderful job (along with his guests) of bringing to light a very serious problem that we in this country need to address before it is too late!.
