So you don't have to keep doing this:

My uncle doesn't even watch broadcast TV anymore, so this is no longer an issue for him. If he really wanted to get around this problem without pulling out the cable, then I would suggest using one of those budget USB/DVR units. I can't speak for Sony TVs now, but back when he bought his, the software was very basic with limited options. I'm pretty sure all that it has when it comes to channel scanning is auto scan (erases existing programmed channels) and add-on scan (programs in newly discovered channels). There is no manual scan or tuning option, and channels that haven't been previously programmed in can't be added by punching in it's RF number on the remote.

All my Samsung TVs allow entering in the RF channel on the remote to program in a station that's not in it's memory, but why they lack a manual scan or add-on option in the settings is beyond me. However, this further complicates things when 2 different stations share the same RF and virtual number, especially after the repack, where a manual tune or add-on option would have been nice. Running auto scan will remove any station that's not currently being received, and if its RF is shared with a virtual of another station that has already been programmed in, it won't work.

KONV is apparently back to mapping themselves "channel 28"

They did, right after Christmas.

At least they reverted the labels back to KONV, which originally reflected the network affiliation of that subchannel, most of which no longer matched. However, someone made a typo on 28.7, and labeled it "KPNV-7".
