Under the Dome

For all the hype that this show is getting, I have not seen anything posted about it here (and forgive me if it has, and I just missed it). So is anyone here watching it? I am not, so I cannot comment on it. But the hype (if you watch CBS at all) is almost unavoidable. When they launched a countdown to the airing of the first episode a few weeks ago, I knew that this was a show that would probably never live up to all the hype. But after a couple of weeks, it hasn't been pulled yet, so maybe they are doing something right? ???

The show is all right, but much of the attention it garnered was due to its strong debut and the fact that it was a summer premiere not to mention a Stephen King product. The numbers have fallen markedly since then.

I lost the will to watch the program again after watching the final moments of the second episode through a cable TV channel for my local CBS station and the entire first episode through Comcast's video-on-demand service. I found most of the characters very unpleasant and unappealing.

The wife and I have been watching the show since its debut and I personally am getting a bit tired of 'Under the Dome' already.

My personal opinion is that the show will not be renewed. Now if "Under the Dome" was on a cable channel, like Stephen King's "Haven" then I would say the show might stand a chance of being around for a while. But we are talking about CBS and those 'suits' won't stand for a show that's experiencing a ratings decline.

Again just my personal opinion.

Well, I believe "Under The Dome" has a very similar storyline to The Simpsons, where The small town of Springfield was trapped; And the only way out of the dome is through Maggie's sand pit. And at the end of that movie, Homer has saved the day.

I've been watching from the beginning- and I'll probably keep watching. Its ok, but not great. Its why so many people turn to cable and premium cable for drama now. The writing is a little tired, the characters are somewhat poorly developed and the acting is sub-par. If they had put this in the hands of HBO or FX or AMC, it might have been phenomenal, if they were able to hire the right people to pull this story off.

My wife and I have been watching UTD. It's okay, but not great. Storyline moves slowly, and the overall mood of the show misses the mark.

Fairly certain this was never meant to be anything more than a limited run summer series, without any intention of renewal.

I watched the first episode but found myself laughing at the inconsistencies of the SFX (cows cut in half that don't bleed and hands leaving bloody prints on the dome but not cows), the terrible acting and juvenile script (bad guy locks girl in basement when he should be concerned about being trapped in the dome).

I have lost all respect for Steven King.

One really can't blame Steven King. There have been a number of his novels made for TV and most of them were not up to par.

The one that stands out in my mind is the one program with the killer clown and giant spider that aired a few years ago featuring Richard Thomas (John-Boy Walton).

A writer who doesn't ensure the integrity of his works (assuming he is alive and can do so) is not worthy of my patronage. It is obvious by the poor quality of the production that it doesn't either. This abomination doesn't even measure up to a basement-quality made-for-TV movie.

The show was #1 for the third straight week on Monday night, so I would guess CBS is happy with the ratings.

Watched the first episode. Watched the first part of the second episode. Haven't been back.

Each episode seemed like a chapter of Exodus. Tune in next week to find out which plague God sends upon Chester's Mill. Not sure if it will be locusts or famine next week.

In recent years, as I work second shift for the most part. I usually don't watch prime time TV, but I was surfing around in the usual places and an ad for the show came up. Of course the first thing I thought of was "Simpsons did it!" So curiosity got the better of me and I watched the first episode on CBS.com. I didn't think it was too bad and might have had potential, but as the weeks progressed, I'm not finding much reason to continue spending valuable bandwidth for this show. It seems to almost be going nowhere, and had better shape up soon or I'm done.

I wouldn't say it's "going nowhere". The whole point of the show is for these people to figure out where the dome came from, how can they escape it, and how they interact with each other while trapped. To me, that's what builds the suspense of the show. And then there are the smaller storylines, like what's the deal with the propane?

Agreed. I'm enjoying it. I am pretty sure the last of 13 episodes is slated to air in September, so there is a finite ending point.
I am wondering if this is how 11/22/63 will be treated when it's made into a movie or miniseries, if that happens.

This show is becoming more bizarre every week.

The psycho son of the town councilman is sane enough to prevent a riot at the hospital following an outbreak of meningitis and then is rewarded by being made a deputy sheriff but meanwhile has a girl locked away in the family bomb shelter.

The reverend tries to destroy all the medicine in town because he think God’s punishing him and others involved in drug trafficking because of the dome, but then turns his money over to the town councilman who is also in cahoots with others in the drug trade.

Meanwhile viewers find out what profession “Barbie” is in and the reaction the editor of the local newspaper has when he tells her husband owed money to some bookie. Yet he pretends that the husband ran off instead of admitting that he accidently killed the guy.

And what is Hank Hill's role?

I don't like the show all that much but have to keep watching to see what happens.

On another site I go to, people love this show.

The show is based on a premise that might have worked for a one-off Twilight Zone episode 50 years ago, but comes off as dumb in 2013. Of course there's the ubiquitous Big, Dark Secret (why the propane was being hoarded) that will leak out (pun intended) in drips and drabs as the series progresses... and as someone else mentioned, it looks as though the people trapped under the dome will be facing a new tribulation each week, which could get very old very quickly. Having said that, the acting is not bad and the special effects are decent. I think I'll give it another couple of weeks to get a sense for where it's going (if anywhere). It may get to the point where I just won't care to invest the time to find out how it ends. Apparently not everything with Stephen King's name on it is brilliant.
