Underapprciated DJ's

This morning I got a pleasant surprise while listening to WALK. The morning jock on weekends is pretty amusing. It leads me to pose the question which DJ's on the Island toil in relative obscurity and are not the stars of their stations but still do good work? I'm talking about people who are not KT Mills, Jodi Vale, Malibu Sue, Gabrielle, Keith Allen, Vic Latino and all the other disc jockeys who are the backbone of the stations they work at. I'm talking about people who are heard infrequently, are not by any imagination stars of the radio industry but when on the air appear to be likable entertaining DJ's. This morning I heard such a person in WALK's Dennis Falcone, a
surprisingly competent DJ. This morning after a music set finished prior to going to Pat Paganos weather he meandered into this anecdote, " I don't know if you heard this but a sleeping student in Norwalk Connecticut is suing his teacher. It seems while he was sleeping the teacher banged on his desk to wake him up and he's claiming hearing damage. Now if the teacher asks him where his term paper is he can say I didn't hear the due date." I was just expecting that early in the morning to hear some music, and since the jock is a low-level one in the industry for him to go through the motions simply regurgitating time, Pats weather, and what song is next but Falcone surprised me.

Mark Laura aka Chris Thomas and Rich Keith at WSHR (Rich did mornings at WLIM for years, Mark was at WBLI and before that HB 107)

The guys at WRIV doing great local radio.

Ed Newlands, Jeff Stevens (formerly Steve Jefferies of B-103), Scotty Hart, Josh Emert, Kyle Kratoville (Jack's son), Chip Ordway, Bernie Bernard (she's back on LI at CWP)

Dennis is no newcomer to this market. He's a true pro, starting his career in 1979 at WNYT Radio, the college radio station for the New York Institute of Technology, was a producer at WCBS-FM in the 80's and became the first Program Director/Afternoon Drive host at B-103 when they signed on in 1993. He's also been a nationally syndicated program producer with Premiere Radio Networks.

I had the pleasure of working with Dennis on 2 occasions during the course of my career and he is a great guy and a hard worker. He deserves only the best and I'm glad someone thought enough of him to give him props on this board.
