unid 1610 am

This one's a mystery and I can't provide a lot of information on it. I've only heard it in the middle of the night on a car radio and I don't have any other radio capable of checking it out. But I'm hearing something in English, just occasional words as the signal strength is so low. One time I caught the phrase "you're watching the ______
network."

My location is East Texas and about the only possibility I've found listed is the Caribbean Beacon from Anguilla in the Leeward Islands. One listing shows them running 200kW but I doubt that, and according to one of the DX sites they are (or were) running old Dr. Gene Scott programs 24/7.

Any ideas?

I finally heard something on 1610 at night. It was weak and brief, a woman's voice and it sounded like she was talking about something of a religious nature. The signal was strongest when the radio was facing in a WNW/ESE direction.

If the broadcast was in english, sounds like gar fla was hearing The Caribbean Beacon. These days I've heard it is only 8KW.

Can't imagine what you were hearing jd. The Canadian on 1610khz is spanish and ethnic and the other station listed, CFOR never made it on the air. There is a station in Mexico on 1610 but I would imagine it broadcasts in spanish. Local spur? Pirate?

There are MW stations that broadcast CNN headline news.

For under $90 you can go out and buy a Sony XDRF1HD HD radio that comes with a small but effective loop antenna. You do have to run it through powered speakers or your stereo receiver though. I have one that I use as a companion to my Drake R7/SM-2 ferrite antenna main receiver and it works great.

I heard the song "Down Home Blues" by ZZ-Hill on 1610 AM the other night. also heard a womans voice but the static was so bad I couldn't make out what she said. I assumed it was Dr. Gene Scott on the Carribean Beacon since he plays a lot of long bumper music on his show. Any ideas?
