I didnt check the song Idea cause I was driving, and my sirius tuner sits in the console, so I didnt get the I.D, and I cant remember enough lyrics to really post anything, all I have is the Beat and rhythm stuck in my head.

The lyrics go as follows...(FEMALE VOCALS...Its just a ride, its just a ride, no need to run, no need to hide..Bla bla bla...Sometimes your up, sometimes your down. More of an electronic hybrid song, than pure dance, similar to Gorillaz-feel good inc. I would still like to know the song title and artist though. IM surprised non of you noticed my typo above, I wrote Song Idea, instead of song I.D
Edited by midwestclubber on 09/19/05 07:24 PM.

Re: Ive got Lyrics,,,Ive got Lyrics

It's about two years old already. Jem is the artist track is Just A Ride. Great CD. Along the lines of Thievery Corp stuff. I noticed 1club.fm has added an electronic station. Kudos to them for acknowledging a very diverse and unique style of music that is programmed on their station.

Re: Ive got Lyrics,,,Ive got Lyrics

Because of dance stations being locked into 130 BPM all day and night they missed it. Also note that the song was played on some AAA's as well as Mix FM stations - LIGHTLY.

There's so much of this music that's out there and yet it get no airplay at all. I believe I mentioned this over a year ago but there's many tracks like that that go unnoticed by air or net casters however, sales are relatively brisk for a music style with so little exposure.

If I remember correctly Jem was used in a movie or two and some TV shows as well.

That's not why it didn't get played. The record label was all set to release the track, and at least 2 of the dance stations were ready to go with it. At the last minute, the label decided to re-release "They" (after it's run at dance radio), which effectively killed the little buzz that there was.
______________

Re: Ive got Lyrics,,,Ive got Lyrics

Since when does a dance music station only jump on a record because of the label's choice. A hit is a hit and if it helps my station stand out it gets played. Many dance music stations (online and terrestrial) look for great songs to play. The nice thing about a well programmed dance format is that the PD or MD can tell a hit and adds it before a label rep makes contact. If he/she's not feeling a track then the rep will need to work a little magic to get them to "hear" it. A good ear would've picked up that record and created a hit with it. The problem is for a programmer to have a few more like it and that requires "hearing" a hit. Putting a track like that (when breaking it) in rotation is finem but it has to be surrounded by hits both current and GOLD with fanfare. A smart PD or MD keeps the record in rotation even when the song becomes added on a larger scale so as to not only BREAK THE HITS, THEY STILL, PLAY THE HITS.

I was really making a point about dance music stations in general seldom exploring that type of material. Very few stations would've touched it. Two is not staggering. But your point is known and understood. Nice talking with you :)

It's usually more productive to the industry in general to help the labels out by playing the tracks in their promotion plan. If a label is putting all of it's money into track A, and you atart playing track B, it takes the fire from track A and often leads to 2 failed tracks.

Also, with this particular track, the remixes were cancelled.

You're right-- tempo is often a hurdle in this format. But hurdles can be overcome! :)
______________

Re: Ive got Lyrics,,,Ive got Lyrics

I can name many a times when the label was wrong. Sometimes radio needs to take the lead to show the label the err of it's ways. Many of the biggest hits of the 70s and 80s by majors like Smokey and Madonna (just to name a few) were not the intended releases. Sometimes radio can break a song if it's good enough and we used to do it all the time.

They dont even make 12 inch mixes of POP, rock, and Hip Hop anymore, the Hip Hop mixes now, are a totally different song, featuring this Rapper, this Homie, this G...Ya know how it goes

Re: Ive got Lyrics,,,Ive got Lyrics

If you're a dance music station, you're not getting much support. The labels don't have much to give you other than stale bread and rotten eggs. 12 Inch Mixes are fine if they're edited down to a short radio edit. As far as pop versions. You must've mispoke. There's a remix version for every pop record out, most of it is annoying and detrimental if you're a terrestrial. Some are very well done, Dalton's "Jerk It Out" stayed true to the game but added a little spunk without wrecking the entire song.

Hey bro,
Mind if you deleted the irrelevant content when you make a post? It was difficult figuring out what you were trying to say, and which were other people's comments. Thanks.
