Unimportant Anniversary Passes

Sunday (4/9) marked 3 years since the WNTY call letters disappeared from the airwaves. Why do I bring this up? Not because I'm obsessed with the station, but because those calls were on 990AM for 34 years when they were changed, replaced by WXCT. When WNTY became WXCT on 4/9/03, it ended one of only a very small number of stations in Connecticut that had held the same call letters since first signing on. Just for the record their building on Old Turnpike Road in the Plantsville section of Southington still has a sign up that Reads WNTY.

I'm sure you're probably the only one who even noticed this anniversary. There
is NO ONE LISTENING to this station! Dr. Laura has got to have the most
pathetic radio show in the world and it airs every afternoon on WXCT. I call
it "Listening For Loser." No wonder they don't show up in the book. I doubt
anyone could listen to this crap for the length of time required for a diary
entry.

It's sad because this could be a nice little radio station. I'll punch it
up once in awhile as I leave work in the afternoon. They've got a great
signal over Hartford. As I pass by the Colt Building on I-91, they come in
loud and clear.

Just imagine them as a Hot Oldies station playing late 50's and early 60's
stuff. Get some great jocks like Jack Carney, Mike West and Lee Gordon
to do it LIVE and LOCAL!! 99X !!!!!!!!

They'd have NO competition!!

Get some good salespeople (I know where they are), sell it for $20 a spot and
you could make a LOT of money.

Charlie Profit...are you listening???!!!!!

Unfortunatly I think the owner of the station Davidson Media Group is happy with the station the way it is. Davidson Media Group couldn't make the brokered Spanish Format Work. They couldn't get an in-house Spanish Format to work. So they brought back Charlie Profit and the news/talk format. I don't have anything against Mr. Profit since he gave me my first taste of radio. I just think his hands are tied with what he can do with the station. I don't know. We haven't spoken in so long.

I agree that an Oldies Format could work. (Well if they can legally bost their night time signal without resorting to building a 3rd tower).

What we need is a station owner willing to invest money into the station. One willing to cough up money to pay DJs, news anchors, board ops, sales people. One willing to advertise the station in the newspapers and on Cable TV. One willing to give up the brokered programming. I would keep a 3 hour block of Italian Programming on the station on Sunday Mornings only because Southington and the surrounding area has such a large Italian Population. But it would be on like 6AM-9AM only.

Unfortuantly I don't think any station owner is gonna want to throw money into an AM station. And since we're talking a new format I seriously doubt any owner would thrown money into a start up AM station.

Keep buying the Powerball Tickets, everyone. Maybe one of us can win and do something great with the place. New calls calls could be WMYO. "MY Oldies 990".

A check of the FCC database shows no record of those call letters for AM or FM. You might wanna get those now! As for PowerBALL, my combo covers ABC television throughout New England: 5-6-9-22-40 (8). "8" is my PowerBALL because it represents both Hartford/New Haven and Portland/Poland Spring, ME, the two markets I've lived in, past or present.<P ID="signature">______________
