Union Meets Management At WROC Following Merger With WUHF

According to someone who belongs to the union at Channel 8, it was management who called for the rank-and-file meeting on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to assure the union that anyone from Channel 31 hired to work at 8 in a technical capacity would have to become members of the union.

The same person who told me about the meeting said that morale at 8 is very high resulting from Monday’s announcement that WROC will be taking over news and other responsibilities from WUHF. The news department will be getting more people and plans are being made to make room at Channel 8’s huge building on Humboldt Street for those WUHF employees who will be moving from their cramped offices and studios on East Avenue.

When asked who would be anchoring the news on 31, my friend didn’t know yet but he believes that 8’s current on-air staff will handle anchor duties on both stations.

As previously posted, Channel 31 will cease its 10:00 pm newscast on September 1st. Nexstar hopes to restart 31’s local news in November. The management is hoping to get everything up and running before the election on November 8th.

8's news department is getting two on-air, one photographer, a producer and a director. Not exactly a lot of extra bodies.

Kevin and Maureen will not be anchoring the 10 o'clock news.
