United Nations Radio

Anybody out there air any of the free, downloadable weekly radio programs from United Nations Radio in New York. The one I'm most familiar with is "Women", a ten minute (used to be 15:00) program covering two or three, maybe four topics pertaining to issues impacting women around the world. The most depressing are the occasional shows about genital mutilation still going on in some places, and U.N. efforts to stop the practice. They also have a Caribbean and African News program seemingly made for American ears, and other shows as well. On top of this, they offer actuality-type audio files for use in newscasts.

WRN airs a program from UN radio at 0000 UTC, but I don't know of any stations that actually broadcast the programs,

We think they were granted 20K@500', when all the other Bls were and they would have eventually been "upped" to 50K@150m. Used to like WRN, but their selection of stations is verrrrry biased.

Would they have had a callsign, either a W or 4U or just go by a name? Can WNYU & WFDU be forced off the air if the U.N. were to activate a station?

The internet station I'm involved with, Geneva Community Radio, airs the UN Daily News Monday to Friday at 5:35 PM Eastern, as part of a nightly block of international news. We may consider adding some of their weekly ten minute features at some point during overnight/early morning hours the next time we revise our schedule. You can tune in to GCR 24 hours a day, seven days a week by going to http://genevaradio.blogspot.com We have aspirations of putting an LPFM station on the air for Geneva during the upcoming filing window next year.

WBWC 88.3 FM in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio market airs "Women" from United Nations Radio Sunday night- technically Monday morning at 12:03 am after the AP Network News.
