Unity Day Philadelphia – Rescheduled for 2010

“Unity Day On The Parkway” would like to inform the many citizens that have supported bringing Unity Day back to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for August 23, 2009 - that due to Clear Channel’s and the City of Philadelphia intermingling into the scheduled Event, we must reschedule the Unity Day Event for 2010 because of this interference and delay.

We have fought a hard battle in a short time to bring recognition to Unity Day being a Community sponsored annual Philadelphia Event.

Clear Channel’s local radio station: WDAS 105.3 FM, attempted to let Unity Day perish when it announced cancellation of the Annual Event on June 3, 2009 with no anticipated revival of the annual event in the near future.

To muddy the waters even more, Clear Channel attempted to claim trademark rights to the words “Unity Day” which preempted the City of Philadelphia to put the Unity Day On The Parkway, Inc. special event permit application on hold.

“Unity Day On The Parkway” is now the recognized trademark for “Unity Day” on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, and is owned by Unity Day On The Parkway, Incorporated.

Working closely with the City of Philadelphia, we have streamlined the application process for producing this event annually. Unity Day On The Parkway for 2010 will be more robust and engaging, where we will be spotlighting the most progressive of Philadelphia’s Cultural Arts and Entertainment resources.

Unity Day On The Parkway would also like to say “Thank You” to all who expressed special interest in saving Unity Day for 2009, through Sponsorship, Vendor Opportunities or Performance Entertainment, your show of support is greatly appreciated.

Preparation for Unity Day 2010 is moving forward without delay and more information can be found at our website: http://UnityDayontheParkway.org

Why couldn't you just admit that you couldn't pull this large of an event together with just 1 month's notice? According to your own post..."Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc. received notice Thursday afternoon, July 23, 2009 that the City of Philadelphia will issue the "Unity Day" permit for August 23, 2009. after Clear Channel's Radio Station WDAS 105.3 FM, attempted to stop the permit application last week."

Now that you have a full year to get this together, I hope that this will be as good as any WDAS sponsored event.

Although it is understood, you shouldn't have promoted this event before receiving the permit and having the talent and vendors already lined up.

Good luck pulling this off.
