Universal Sports Network

We had it briefly in Kentucky during the FEI World Equestrian Games, but Insight/Time Warner has never offered it since. It could be a major showpiece during the 2016 Olympics.

This should have been NBC Sports 2 the moment Versus became NBC Sports Network-it wouldn't have to change its focus at all, but the cross-promotion opportunities would be so much better.

I believe there was another thread - maybe it was on another board - wondering why not even Comcast was carrying it. That to me tells me Comcast wants to kill it, perhaps trying to intimidate the events on there into moving to NBCSN.

I assume it's to get contract obligations out of the way before eventually a 50/50 NBCU Sports/USOC-sponsored network is finally able to be launched as Comcast wanted to do before the IOC and NBC blocked them pre-merger from doing so.

The problem is that sports agencies like IMP and IMG now run the big athletic events, so any move would be a hard one without the agencies just buying a little-watched network and launching their own service. That's why Lucas Oil bought up MavTV; the only ratings the network got that were respectable were during Lucas Oil events, and Lucas was tired of bad reality and bikini shows surrounding their stuff.
