Univision 61 news?

I found this twitter for WQHS Univision 61: https://twitter.com/Univision61 and it appears that it is operated by staff members from their sister station in Raleigh, NC ch 40. Here is a media kit from their corporate site: http://corporate.univision.com/media-kit/wqhs-univision/#axzz2JxqZBy52 . Though not an official facebook page here is a page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/noticias-univision-cleveland-ohio/217777044927883 Could this be the beginning of a new 6 and 11 PM news in Spanish for ch 61?

It could be if WQHS hires a staff to get local news off the ground. Last time I checked, there were very few staffers at an extremely small facility in Parma. They would have find a location to broadcast any local programming.

They do have the studio in Parma from when it was WCLQ and since univision has a partnership with ABC NEWS (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlin...u-s-hispanics-will-be-based-in-miami-florida/) and univision wants all of its stations to have local news casts.

Most likely, no. If you watch 61 for any length of time, it's obvious that they don't even have a local sales staff. Other than some Spanish Time Warner, Tri C and 2012 Political Spots...not much local gets on. When they do go into local breaks, it's mostly PSA's. My bet is they have sales done from one of their other stations, and the sales person is most likely not in the market. The Cleveland "news" they do is one minute breaks (about :20 past the hour in prime time), which can easily be recorded in another market and sent down the line to Cleveland. They make a minimal effort, if that, on 61. Cleveland is NOT a heavily Hispanic market, and even the 2 local Spanish radio stations are public, and have lousy signals.

I know the GM was out of Washington DC, the twitter was set up from staff members in North Carolina, and I think their required public affairs shows is done in Miami as at least in one show the host was standing in front of a window that had palm trees in the background.

As for the Spanish population, though it is not as big as LA there is more than you would think as parts of Cleveland has had a big portion of people from Puerto Rico.

In Ohio Cleveland,Parma, and Lorain combined have a population of 58,626 more than any where else in Ohio. If you factor in Akron and Canton which is the Cleveland TV market you have about 61,261 people. Again not a lot of people and the market does not crack the top 50 in terms of Hispanic Nielson homes, it does look that Cleveland officials are trying to attract new people to town and I can see Univision at some point wanting to make a local investment as from what I have read they want all of their O &O's to have local content.
