UNIVISION BANKRUPTCY NEARING?

How much longer will univision communications operate with the Debt of $10.2 billion?

As long as the cash flow covers the debt service. Considering the fact that the cash flow is growing, this is a non-issue and non-question.

seeMs like univision needs to Make cuts and duMp telefutura and changes at the top

1. Telefutura beats Telemundo and is the 2nd highest rated Hispanic TV network in the US
2. Univision, since being sold and going private, has ecruited an incredibly powerful top management group.
3. The Univision network has socered a number of #1 nights in 18-34 recently, beating ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.

Ever since you started posting, you have acted like the classic troll, who posts something so absurd that someone needs to reply to correct the impression the absurd post made. You have stated SBS is going to sell a station... unlikely at best, impossible to most. You stated Lincoln was going to buy, when this group is selling, not buying. You stated a station would do a second oldies format, while oldies stations are dying all over the US or switching to classic hits. Now you state that the only media company with signficicant positive growth is near bankruptcy. And then you say that company should sell a high rated and profitable division, etc.

All this "stuff" you are troll-posting is wrong, and most of it is absolutely invented. You really need to stop posting this kind of thing...one thing is discussing a rumor in the realm of possibilities and another is just making struff up. You are doing the later, and your conscience should tell you to stop. This is the real world, not Sim City and WSIM Radio.

thanks for the sales pitch! and no where on the univision site does it say # 1 above abc nbc fox and cbs it actually says its 5th and well people watch the networks and listen to the stations and last time i checked debt reand well means moneys going out and with 10.2 billion in debt that alot of money going out and so i know univision will still keep going and let debt increase as it goes and just know #1 with hispanics doesnt really mean its # 1 in the nation its still 5th

Please do us all a favor. Just stop posting all these irresponsible posts. That's all he was trying to say. You are possibly the most uninformed person that has ever posted here. There are plenty of nice people who are seeking info on these boards that are not extremely informed, but the one's who aren't as informed don't act like such a schmuck. As I stated in an earlier thread. Get some knowledge about the business before wasting our time. That's all.

It's overall all day 5th, but in 18-34 there have been nights that Unvision has been #1 and #2. Frequent nights.

Almost every company has debt. Growth is usually achieved in business using other people's mone.

and so i know univision will still keep going and let debt increase as it goes

Debt does not increase. Generally, one pays interst and some principal, and over time debt decreases and interest payments decrease, too.

You are obviously unarmed for a discussion of finance.

and just know #1 with hispanics doesnt really mean its # 1 in the nation its still 5th

You don¿t know how to read ratings, either.

Going back 3 years, here is an example:

Univision tops ratings for 18-to-34 demographic
July 8, 2005
By Diane Holloway

For the first time, Univision has become the top-rated network in prime time among the hard-to-reach 18- to 34-year-old viewers.

The top Spanish-language television network beat all other broadcast and cable networks last week in the 18-34 demographic. That includes Spanish- and English-speaking viewers.

And in 2008 we see...

Ratings Watch: 'Premios' Outdraw Oscars By Four Million
Published: February 27, 2008
Millions of Latino television viewers once again tuned their televisions to a celebration of talent, highlighted by high fashion sported by some of the biggest stars around.

But it's not the 80th annual Academy Awards on ABC we're talking about. While U.S. Hispanics made Sunday night's Oscar telecast No. 1 among the week's English-language programs, Univision's "Premio lo Nuestro a la Música Latina 2008" attracted a massive 6.1 million Latino viewers with its February 21st telecast.

The Latin world's biggest gathering saluting the year's best in Spanish-language music, the show earned a 26.7 rating/39 share in the Nielsen NTI Hispanic rankings, easily ranking No. 1 for the week in Latino homes.

You just don't know when to stop, do you?

Debt that is being serviced does not increase in amount. If interest only is being paid, then the debt stays the same, just as in an interest only home mortgage. If debt is not serviced, the loan is called. If debt is serviced and an amount is put towards principal, the debt decreases and the interest decreases, too.

Your knowledge of finance is severely lacking; almost all businesses expand using somebody else's money, with the profit being on the margin in the business' area of endeavor less the interest rate. If there is a good spread, then borrowing is cheaper than waiting to use reinvested profits because the loan can allow immediate moves when needed.

David,

Question. I often watch Univision; thanks to high school, college, and personal study of Spanish as well as a few trips to Mexico, I can understand it pretty well. I also follow the business angle of it in online journals and blogs. However, I notice that Univision does seem to have stopped gaining new television affiliates. For a while there, the company was going great guns and seemed to be adding an affiliate a week. But the online list of affiliates has not changed in almost a year to the day.

What gives? Telemundo may be gaining some viewers, but in the ratings tables published at MediaLife.com yesterday, Univision still has three times as many, and Azteca America does no better than Ion. One would think the secondary market TV stations that are doing poorly with CW and My Network would seriously consider becoming Univision affiliates. Or is affiliating with Univision much too expensive under the new owners? For example, when the new KGLA-TV (ex WHMM) went on the air in New Orleans, the owner went with Telemundo, even though he has carried the audio of the Univision nightly news on his KGLA (AM) for years. What would be the reason for that decision, except that Univision is too expensive?

I'm not in TV, but the concept is simple. Once you get out the largest Hispanic markets, the ability of an affiliate to make money on local sales is limited. However, for the network itself, there are other ways of making money, particularly in the cable payments for carrying each channel.

What would be the reason for that decision, except that Univision is too expensive?

I don't know that situation, so I can not even guess. Generally, affiliations are "free" in exchange for running the newwork spots and the money is made from local sales. Again, I am ou tof my element here, as I came from the radio side (Heftel, HBC, Univision Radio) and have never worked in TV!
