Univision getting serious ..signal switch

Univision switched "La Jefa" with limited signal to big stick "Recuerdo" frequency.
Looks like it puts "La Jefa" coverage on a par with Lobo.
Interesting battle shaping up.

Huh, that should be interesting. I've never heard La Jefa before (its signal didn't reach Taos and I normally listen to Albuquerque's Class Cs anyways).

Sorry, but while we're on the topic of Univision, I must ask a question about HD Radio. David Eduardo, or anybody else who might be familiar with the situation, will the purchase of Univision have an effect on the company's HD rollout? Any word on when HD might reach Univision's Albuquerque stations?

Sorry. We can go back on topic now. :p

It seems that Univision here is very sleepy - I never see any outside promotion, don't hear much from them in the market. Mabye they do fine under the radar. Any opinions?

Keep in mind Univision has been sold to an investment group.
With television and the music division being the big dogs..I'm thinking
radio is not high on the new owner's priority. Just a guess.
But if they are expecting return on their investment in Alubquerque,
I would suspect a little marketing, and format adjustments.
It will be interesting to see if La Jefa makes a good run at Lobo now that the frequency shift has happened.
Nice building, staff is good, sales is underperforming..so time will tell.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Radio produces the highest margins, greater than TV per the last earnings call where it was mentioned thast music was and had been losing money, badly

The synergy in markets with both raido and TV is what motivated the purchase, per an interview with Haim Saban.

I defer to you David. Thanks for the clarification.
Do you see Univision adding or subtracting radio stations?

Also, explain the operation of Univision television here in Albuquerque.
Never quite understood the arrangement.

Univision is a TV network (three, actuallY) a TV station operator, a radio group, as well as having an internet and music division.

In the smaller market, the network has affiliates, something that predates the 1996 relaxation of ownership limits and/or natinal coverage caps by a TV nets's o&o stations. In the medium markets (El Paso, Albuquerque, Palm Springs, etc.) the biggest operator of affiliates is Entravision, who owns the affiliates in ABQ.

Thanks for the clarification David.
Looking forward to an interesting year in Albuquerque radio wise.
Some recent changes in formats..and sale of Univision et al will set the scene.

Happy New Year's!

You can crank it up another notch. 105.1 will be programming 'Piolin por la manana' starting next Thurs., Jan 11th. They'll be barking with the big dogs in L.A., Dallas, Phoenix, San Francisco, et. al. that carry this clever AM show.

Tweety bird.."Piolin" coming to Albuquerque . Heard the negotiations were underway. So now it's certain? He will be a big boost for KJFA.
