Univision KRTX-AM sold Houston for $3 million.

Houston is not a non-core market, KRTX is probably not a core station for Univision. What else are they going to sell in other markets?

UNIVISION is selling Tejano KRTX-A (TEJANO 980 AM)/ROSENBERG-RICHMOND-HOUSTON, TX to ROBERTO RUBEN VILLARREAL's ALELUYA CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING for $3 million. ALELUYA also owns Ethnic KBRZ-A and noncommercial Spanish Religion KFTG (RADIO ALELUYA) in the HOUSTON market.

KALIL AND CO. represented UNIVISION and JOHN W. SAUNDERS represented the buyer in the deal.

Oh Great!, a nice Texas format (which is already dying) is getting replaced by some jerk who calls himself a Warrior of God. I was listening to KFTG today, and some guy who calls himself a doctor was telling a lady that the cries at night her daughter was having was because of the devil and she should take her to the pastor for a cure! NEWS FLASH, KIDS HAVE NIGHTMARES. These people are idiots!(both the mother and the "Doctor" and ALL KFTG listeners!)

Well, I just hope Univision keeps Tejano going with their Texas Tejano Network. It is supposed to be active right now in Dallas/Forth Worth, Austin, McAllen-Brownsville, and El Paso from my understanding. (only Waco was left out.)

$3 million dls seems kinda cheap for a heritage station like KRTX-AM i guess they were just waiting for dan the man to pass away. Villareal will place the same programming he has on 88.1 on the new radio aleluya 980am ,but if you ask me Amor Celestial 104.9 hd2 would kill all these christian spanish stations its just that no one knows about it!

Cheap? YOu call three Million cheap? Man I thinks thats expensive, if I had the money I would pay that much fo a station like 980am. That station is nothing but static, just like my friends call the station all the time. Puro Static 980 am!

I can't say that I am completely surprised in this move, but I certainly hope that Univision will not abandon the Tejano format, and will move it to KAMA or KLAT. I know money talks, but I am disheartened by the fact this joker will be getting the heritage Rosenberg AM. Just another dead place on the radio, I'm afraid.

BTW, I sure hope the "Class Reunion" show is allowed to move to another Univision property. I'd sure hate to lose this diamond on the Sunday morning AM dial.

Hmm......you swear that El Campo's KNTE is a Houston local heard all over the city, while Rosenberg's KRTX (60 miles closer to Houston than El Campo) is Puro Static?

Old Johnny has you pegged, my fellow poster.

I doubt it, They will probably leave Tejano on KLTN's HD2 just running music 24/7 (with the exception of the Morning show, just like Dallas). I will miss the Class Reunion as well, but now that Dan Segura is no longer with us, I'm afraid that the Class Reunion has had its last union. I loved the fact that Dan went out of the usual Tejano and played some old great hits.
But now that Dan is gone, I could really care less what happens to the station. The music is ok, it just needed some major upgrades and new artists (I know, impossible), The Morning show sounds tired, the afternoon guys are bad (one of them screams into the mic), and the night chick is pre-recorded!

I'd say, let this little station go on a high note, shut it off now before it becomes a mess.

(Old Johnny is crossing his fingers to end the Party and start a NEW Fiesta, Texas style that is  ;))

You know I re-read it, and it makes no sense. It is expensive for him, but yet, he'll buy it?

Ha, I gave up on him a looonnnnnngggggg time ago. All this texmex is doing is littering the internet. I hope he's happy, his savior (aleluya Broadcasting) is going to ruin a long time legendary station to the Rosenburg/Richmond Area. And so, the trashing will begin shortly at 980 AM

Half Asleep? Tell me, can you also Half Drive, Half Eat, and half Run? Or did you mean Drowsy? I'd bet it is just bad grammar.
Orale homes! ;D

Do you know how much a Class B AM station that covers half of the 6th largest metro would cost me? Didn't think so.

Yeah you're right. Its bad grammar!

The timing is interesting. I wonder if the divestiture of this worthless signal has anything to do with KLOL and KHMX being in play?

Perhaps Univision is trying to impress the DOJ?

I doubt it. Univision is selling its non-core stations. KRTX definetly falls in this category. I wonder what other markets are they selling in? El Paso and The Valley may be candidates, along with KHCK in Waco and KAJZ in Central Texas (that is if they still own it). Who knows, I'm just guessing.

Can a Spanish religious format positive cash flow $30,000.00 a month to service debt. With all the volunteers and low pay staff that they usually employ, I would guess that it makes sense. You would also think that Univision could have done the same thing.

The total purchase price the was paid for Univision was roughly 12.5 billion by Haim Saban. He has since sold Univision records and he has announced that non-core assets will be sold and KRTX is a a part of that equation. The sale won't pay down much of the debt, but it does send out a message that is loud and clear.

When is this switch from Puro Tejano to Radio Aleluya going to happend?

I believe KPTI starts the Tejano format Monday after next from what I've read. I assume KRTX will flip to Aleluya at the same time.

Someone in the Univision Tejano page said that Puro Tejano will be on KPTI starting not this monday but the monday after next.
