Unless HD Radio can deliver like this, it has no hope.

Cool little gadget, I couldn't stand the fidelity of something like that by itself but I bet the kids could. What is 3G? Is it able to take advantage of a home internet connection? Does it have a provision for adding an external amp and speakers?

Nokia makes several of these smartphones. 3G is wireless Internet access and can vary from ATT's Edge at around 100kbps to Sprint or Verizon's EV-DO in the 400-700kbps range, or the higher EV-DO Rev. A at well over 1.0Mbps. It depends on the carrier. These phones also have Wi-Fi built in. Besides the internal speakers, you can plug in a pair of headphones or connect it to your car radio's AUX-IN or an external amp.

Can anyone here can point to any links that promote HD Radio in a way that shows it off as being as cool as the Nokia Internet Radio capable devices shown at the beginning of this thread? I'd sure like to see any such videos if they exist.

I'm sure it has a stereo earplug jack, which you can use to drive an external amp or speakers :)

At least I know the "MP3-player cellphones" have those.

Some of the new Nokia's like the E61i and the exorbitantly-priced E90 have WiFi. Some US carriers haven't wanted these devices on their systems, because they can bypass the cellular network, but that tide is changing. The capabilities that Europeans and Asians enjoy are compelling carriers to open things up here. Even Verizon, who is notorious for locking down various Bluetooth profiles and disallowing multiple means of connectivity, is reversing this mindset. Verizon is also migrating away from CDMA/EV-DO and moving toward LTE beginning late this year.
