UNPAID INTERNSHIP VS ON THE BEACH

Look at it this way: Right now you are being paid nothing and aren't involved in the biz. With an internship, you still are unpaid, but at least you will be INSIDE and making contacts.

Where do you stand a better chance to gain a new opportunity from? The beach or inside a station?

I'd go for the internship... what have you got to lose?

WTF, do it, bro. Schedule your real paycheck around it, and when it takes off and you can pay your bills fulltime, if ever, you know you're going to go for it. Take it, you know you wanna, but hopefully you've also learned how to pay bills so you can actually enjoy it this time around. Congrats and hey, while you're in the sacred studios, try and do your small part to pave the way for the next LIVE jock.

Careful, the corporate suits see this and next up will be,

Searching for next new morning star on the radio, position requires lots of prep., getting up at 2am, doing anything the company expects you to do.

At the moment(forever) this is a "unpaid" position.

Looks like even the major markets know SOMEONE will work for nothing. How sad

Apparently, Emmis is looking for talent to staff their new AAA station in New York City (the old 101.9, WQCD). Salary?

Up to 45K.

Fourty five thousand for full time air talent at a full power group owned FM in New York City. Isn't life grand?

Jeff Smulian should be ashamed of himself!

They are NOT AAA! They are an active/classic rock station. OP: TAKE THE JOB! Radio is hard to get in. And say something my way - I want to get in on it too! I can program a great smooth jazz station leaving ones who flipped saying "Shizzlenits! Shoulda hired him!"

I've been on the beach for 8 months. I've been offered an unpaid internship in a major market. Do I take it?

That right there should be enough to tell you it's time to look for another line of work.

Amen!

If you want to raise children, send them to college, live in a nice home, drive a nice car, have good credit and sock away $$ for the later years, do yourself and your family a big favor, GET OUT of the business!!!

Man, you guys are cold.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, however. On the other hand, there aren't a lot of jobs out there that guaranty ANYTHING. A lot of industry is getting as bad as radio.
