Unrated WCFO Touts New Lineup

That is the funniest press release I have ever read. One would think that WCFO has more listeners than WSB & V100 combined.

Let's see, they will power up from 160 watts at 7:45 to 50,000, in Oct. (still can't hear due to early morning sky wave) and power down at 7:00 but you start getting afternoon skywave from 1160 in Chicago at about 4pm. 1160 just has an awful signal and I can't understand why they think this talk line up will work. Look at WGKA they have no ratings and they have a killer daytime signal and run conserative talk so why does 1160 think they will have any listeners and gain any ratings. They won't! 1160 would be much better if they programed something nobody else is doing, (and not the mess on 1690) but say a music format that people will listen too on the am band. When it was owned by Corey Enterprises and was MOYL they had a loyal base of listeners and even had a .04 or .05 which was something. Now they have nothing.
Plus they have not made a dime on 1160 or 1690 according to a newspaper article a while back since it was purchased from Corey.

I actually like 1160's programming significantly more than 920's - I'm a fan of talk, but non-political/non-agenda based talk. I find myself a fan of Clark Howard, Dave Ramsey and TRG - most of the programming on 1160 right now isn't polarized with a political agenda - its about life.

Though, I would prefer them to bring back some elements of their Business Radio venture, specifically, Ray Luccia.. but oh well...

That's not an accurate characterization of a lineup that consists of Mancow (who has been transforming himself from shock jock to conservahack), Laura Ingraham, and Dennis Miller. Phil Hendrie is also doing a more political show than what he used to do for Premiere. It seems to be what used to be called "black propaganda" -- injecting one side's talking points while pretending to be on the other side.

True - forgot to take into account the schedule changes, however, I'm usually on other stations when those shows are on- I basically use them as a 9a-1p station when there aren't any better options on the dial. Though, the revised schedule has basically nuked any usefullness I had for them as a station.

The weekend programming is decent as well - okay, maybe was decent, as John Adams flew the coop, but there's still a few others that are listenable...

The ONLY reason WMLB (then at 1160) was purchased was so Joe Weber could broadcast his bird calls (and ecclectic format) once again. No other reason except his fascination with seeing an AM radio transmitter broadcast bird calls.

Once WMLB moved to 1690, the original plan was to sell 1160. Then came the down economy. It seems like 1160 is in a holding pattern until the station can be sold. If Joe Weber can pay the bills (and I don't know how he is), 1690 will be broadcasting the wonderful sounds of the blue jay for a while.

Anyone who buys 1160 will have an uphill battle no matter what format (talk, standards, Spanish, polka). There is only one real viable AM (WSB) and four somewhat viable (WDWD, WGST, WCNN, WQXI). WCFO has a better daytime signal powerwise than WDWD, WCNN, and WQXI, but a worse nighttime than the three.
