Unusual promo on KFNC 97.5

KFNC has been running a promo for a “special opportunity“ for anyone who “lives, works, or drives” in zip codes 77469, 77477, 77478, and 77479. All of these zip codes are in northeastern Fort Bend County. Promo doesn’t explain any further. Any ideas on what this is about? Thought occurred to me that they are checking signal viability there? Perhaps another simulcast?

I have no real idea what is going on with this, but rather curious.

Is it a promo directly from Gow? If it isn't, then it's probably nothing.

They still don't have HD? Not sure if the FCC will take them seriously when it finds out about the 925 situation. LOL assuming they're gonna go after the up-and-coming 97.3.

If there is any type of FCC quandary with the 92.5 translator, it will fall on the owners of the translator and not Gow. The burden to rebroadcast a proper parent station (and to keep the translator within spec) falls on the owner(s) of the translator and not the person leasing it.

David Gow needs to quit fiddling around with a bad 97.5 signal and whatever translators he can lease. Get on the phone to Alfred Liggins and see what it would cost to pry KROI away from Radio One, before someone else beats him to it.

I imagine Gow could easily sell KFNC. VCY America just bought rimshot KESN in DFW, so they might also want to get into the Houston market.

The way I see it, if he's making money with KFNC then what incentive is there to buy a better stick? Would KROI really boost the revenue enough to justify buying another station? With VCY in the market, Gow would be buying a license at a premium.

VCY is much closer to KHCB in programming mix and tone than anything in DFW. I'm sure VCY (or anyone) would like to be in a market as large as Houston, but they might look for markets with more blue ocean.

Makes sense, just Gow is the one providing the programming. But I understand if he doesn't oversee technical operations... He should at least turn on 97.5 HD2.

The 97.5 signal is terrible. It is the farthest of the eastern rimshots, and in much of the Houston market that is a ten mile difference from the closer Devers sticks...which can make a big impact on a marginal signal. 97.5 also constantly gets shredded by tropo from KWTX and KFTX...sometimes KFNC is absolutely unlistenable at my Cy-Fair location due to all the interference.

Audio quality on the 92.5 translator is crummy...usually tinny sound, uneven audio levels, and excessive modulation bandwidth causes sibilance splatter. Also a money drain for Gow.

The 97.5 6+ ratings are consistently far below those of 610 and 790. While I would love to see male 25-54 breakouts on the sportstalkers, I suspect 97.5 is far behind its AM competitors.

If KROI was purchased and made the new home for any of the three local sportstalkers in Houston, it would have a huge advantage over the competition. While 92.1 isn't a Missouri City stick, the new tower has resulted in a noticeably improved signal over most of the market. Also I have never heard any issues with co-channel tropo interference on 92.1. Turning off the stereo would help even further with a sportstalk format.

Look at the numbers for The Ticket and The Fan in DFW, both of which are on FM. They are far ahead of the Houston sportstalkers.

That's why I say anyone considering upgrading their sportstalker coverage needs to pry KROI away from Radio One, before their competition, or a national religious broadcaster, beats them to the punch.

No, not a money drain. 92.5 is not leased to Gow. No money involved here. Other good and valuable comsideration, yes, buy no hard cash exchange here.

You seem to work with Gow but I do agree the sound quality is horrible and over modulated .. why the issue

North of Conroe many nights I can only hear KWTX and no sign of KFNC.

It is the most powerful frequency in the greater area. I've gotten KYLR and KTFW a few times causing interference though.

LOL MrTejano and +713, you should get the Chiefs to read these boards... Oh wait they're too busy going for another Superbowl title. :)

There can be absolutely no "you scratch my back, you scratch mine" type of considerations. This includes donations to any non-profits a translator owner may own or run or equipment leases.

The only instances where some consideration is allowed is when the translator is broadcasting into a "white area". And Houston is definitely NOT a white area.
