From someone who has never been to Vermont, but does have a subscription to "Vermont Life" magazine -- Will I ever want to move that far north for a great job and be able to live there when the leaves show their beautiful colors in the fall?

Get a good job where you are and VISIT Vermont in the fall...or maybe not...soon they'll be taxing the leaves as they fall! Between the ever rising property taxes, low wages and the Commies that run most of the state...unless your over 65 or are wearing dreadlocks, move to New York or New Hampshire and take an afternoon drive once in a while...the Lefties love your tourist dollar...but love your tax dollar MORE! BEWARE!!!!! That is...unless you plan to be a free-loader...then...come on home!

And if you decide to leaf peep...PULL OFF THE ROAD FIRST!! I have to get to WORK!

Ha! I concur with the Dude...No Target, no Cracker Barrel and when you arrive with with your foriegn car with out-of-state tags, know that the term "flatlander" is not a term of affection...

If the "job" you hope to get in Vermont is in radio, it better be the "job' of owning and running a station.

Voice-tracking and syndication are making the all-live-jocks station a thing of the past even in this quaint little state.

If "Vermont Life" is your only impression of the Green Mountain State, then do plan a visit in each of Vermont's five seasons(Summer/Winter/Spring/Fall/Mud). Mud season happens between Winter and Spring and sometimes happens twice a year.
(You can tell it's getting warm 'cuz people break out the shorts when the temps get UP to freezing!)

Also, temper the polished spin of "Vermont Life' by reading some of the Vermont daily/weekly newspapers on line.
Find a list of links to them here: http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/usstate/usvermon.htm
While the crime rate is lower than many other states, there is still the occasional bank robbery/senseless killing or other horrible happening.

Above all, please come visit Vermont! Bring your resume and CDs of your air work.

One more thing, bring money...you'll be helping to keep the Green Mountains "green"!

Wow -- interesting responses.
"Flatlander" isn't cool? Exactly what does that mean?
Is that like "Yankee" down here?

I don't know -- Guess I'll always live in the south but I tell ya, you have some
very pretty country up there.

Flatlander: (from VirtualVermont.com)
"Understand that we at Virtual Vermont do live in Vermont, and have done so for a long time, one being a NATIVE, the other a TRANSPLANT of more than thirty years. Note that simply being born in Vermont does not make you a Native: "Just 'cause the cat has her kittens in the oven don't make 'em biscuits!". Depending on who you're talking to, one must be second or third generation born on this soil (some purists would go for being able to trace your ancestors back to the original Green Mountain Boys). A Transplant, on the other hand, is a non-Native who decided to stay long enough ago that roots are firmly established (a Transplant's grandchildren will be called Native, if everyone follows the rules). Anybody "just visiting", no matter how often you do it, is a FLATLANDER."

and in this Sunday's Times Argus newspaper the headline reads, "Can Vermonters afford Vermont?"

Sip your sweet tea, eat some barbeque (cuz there is none up here) and enjoy the fact that eventhough the foliage only lasts for about three weeks, the ice and snow seem to last forever!
