Upcoming Format Change at WRQR!!!!

Radio Online is reporting JT is out at Rock 104.5 due to upcoming format changes . Tina is now co hosting the morning show on Z107-5, this is a shocker. Any idea when WRQR will flip and to what format? This is about to get interesting :(

None of that is shocking to anyone in the know

Tina is the OM's "on the side" who he moved from Ohio....(not confirmed...but now pretty obvious, huh)

JT should have been fired 8 years ago (out of his 9 at RQR)

LA MUSICA is coming....maybe country but Next would screw that up too!

Isn't it funny that RQR fell apart?

After Next screwed up and lost JBB (thanks to Jeff D's temper)....and the "chain" of firings since

1.) Ducky
2.) Bea Raybourne (not really fired...but kinda)
2.) Matt Carter
3.) Dave North
4.) Harve Allen VP Of Programming that had the great idea of the morning show at night
5.) Artie Greene Moron first time GM
6.) Now JT....which if he would have been the first one fired....maybe Wilmington wouldn't be hearing spanish on 1045....or whatever brilliant idea next has

"What is Next At Next"?

Try and talk the staff down from this mess at the next all staff meeting Jeff....and maybe someone will post in here what color tie you wore as you lie to your staff yet again

The Spanish format would work for WRQR(or whatever the call letters are), i
thought a few years ago someone in the Wilmington Market would go in this
direction, now it looks like this will take place shortly.
As for the other "NextMedia" outlets here, any other possible changes?

Matt! Dude, I assume your name is on that list by your hateful, slanderous (if not liable) comments. What was so bad about JT? 104 was my favorite station when I was in that area!

Matt, it's seems your name is the same as the #2 on the list, could this be the one and only Matt Carter? If so you also listed your live in buddy Dave (self promoting). It seems these comments are to get back for your discharge from the station. [EDIT] Lets see--- before Matt Carter/Dave North on the air and programming the music the ratings were good to above average. Matt Carter/Dave North begin on the air and programming the music and the ratings go in the crapper--They are let go and what do you know the ratings rise and even both of the morning shows improved. So it shows that the loss of JB&B and ratings don't mean everything. Stop blaming it on JT!! He was the only one who really cared about the listeners. Carter only cared about himself !! The only thing that means anything to Mexmedia is the almighty dollar. I'm sure the people in the Wilmington office are sorry to see JT go. Most are stunned and speechless. It's too bad they can not and will not speak their true feelings as they need their job. I understand their silence!!

When Matt and Dave were let go I could not find one listener or anyone at Nextmedia who had anything good to say about them or was sorry to see them go!! Most were relieved and happy to see them go. I should know I was one of them. I wonder why nobody posted anything about the horrible loss to Rock when they were let go, because everyone was glad!! Last I knew the listeners make the ratings and respect from co-workers is earned and neither was produce from the duo. Get over it, find a new job and stop being so hateful. Karma is a B*#ch and your building up a powerful Karma smack down. Let's see how many people post about this topic and are outraged, stunned, speechless, about the raw deal served up to JT, Doug and the Rock 104.5 listeners. I'm sure more than the loss of Matt Carter and Dave North!!

Now on to JT--Mexmedia has lost a valuable personality and will lose a ton of listeners once the public finds out that Mexmedia dropped JT for imports and has dropped American listeners and workers for Mexican listeners and workers. Don't get me wrong, immigrants here legally need work to but not at the expense of American workers. I feel betrayed by Nextmedia as an American!!! Shame on you Nextmedia or now known as Mexmedia. Go back to just doing Billboards where you can't mess up American jobs, lives!!
JT don't listen to the comment you should have been fired years ago, it's desperate words from a desperate person. You are the best at what you do and will always be on top in our book!!
We all hope you are offered employment here in the Wilmington area, HINT: are you reading this people at The Hawk or The Bone
We will miss you dearly if not!!! I'm sure we will all follow you no matter were you fall on the FM Dial. Keep Rockn buddy!!

As for Tina being hired to be Jerry's "on the side" action, I hope Jerry takes action on this comment!! This comment is to justify Matt Carters discharge and needs to be corrected. Tina has proved herself on her merits and not by her gender. Since she has been at the station she has brought back the lost listeners and gained new listeners as well as helped raise the ratings from the Matt Carter era and started playing the music the listeners wanted to hear, not just what she wanted to hear. She also made it fun to go to the live remotes again with her fun personality. Get the point Matt!! She deserves her new job at Z and will do the job expected of her no matter what the format is. Tina keep being the girl that giggles when she talks and wiggles when she walks, your new morning partner is lucky to have you!! Good luck and enjoy much success.

Ducky-- WE DID MISS YOU ALSO!! Don't want to leave you out. This is the only name on the list beside JT that did not deserve the boot from Mexmedia.
Doug (news man/blues man) Carlise was also let go with this change but is not on the list. Is Matt trying to say he should have been let go? We can't forget about him!! Good luck Doug we hope to hear your voice on the local airwaves again in the near future. Keep your head up and make the best of this crappy situation. lemonade out of lemons!!

From what I've heard the switch will take place on April 1st, what a deal on the Fools Day!! Fools for Fools/stupid is as stupid does!! Then WRQR Rock 104.5 will become WRNOMORE.
The Will will move to 104.5 and The Will's call numbers will become the new Mexican station, at least we can keep 104.5 programmed into our radios as The Will plays everything and is better than the Mexican format as I don't speak Spanish and shouldn't have to!! America = English. How do we expect them to ever learn English if we cater to them. Go move to any other country and see if they cater of you and put everything in English. I think NOT

If anyone has comments either for or against my opinions please post and let everyone know how you really feel. This is how I feel and I don't believe that I stand alone!!

[EDIT-inflammatory]

I won't get into a lot of the drama that's making it's way onto these forums. What I will say is that it's a damn shame that WRQR is going out like this. When I first moved to Wilmington, Rock 104.5 instantly became one of my favorite radio stations. I listened to some incredible on-air talents go through there. From Christine Martinez and Gregg Stepp (now working at Rock105 in Jacksonville, FL) to John Stevens, J.T. McVickers, The Duckman, Jimbo, and Doug Carlisle. The thing all those folks had in common was that they truly loved the station, the format, and the people who listened to them.

I think that somewhere along the way, the station lost it's heart and the listeners noticed. That's what caused them to go elsewhere for their fix of classic rock.

RIP, Rock 104.5. Thanks for the memories. I'll think about you every time I sit down to have a "whole lotta lunch..."

What kind of station even in Wilmington has a website that to contact them it goes your email and not their's on the site? HOW CHEAP!

Also, no coverage map or power info on site or google.

The EEO is so long. Problems in the Port City :(

Is there proof that a spanish lanuage format will be replacing rock on 104.5 or just speculation. I personaly would like to see oldies return. I know most of you are saying it won't happen but in this business you never know. I also would love The Port City to have a decent lite rock station yea I know Lite 98.7 failed but good music does not make a great station. Lite had an awesome mix of yesterday and today and lots of oh wow songs but the imaging was terrible the voiceover guy could put you to sleep and there was little or no promotion of Lite far as I know they never once had T shirts. The only good thing about Lite 98.7 was Brian White doing mornings Brian is a great guy and a class act all the way at least that is my impression I even had the oppertunity to sit in with BW during one of his morning shows. Now on to my next question, everyone always talked ahout how great Kool 98.7 was as an oldies station having only heard Kool once in the late 90s and a handful of times before Lite came along, What made Kool 98.7 such a great station? I for one am sad to see Rock 104.5 go I grew up between DC and Baltimore and the rock stations there are horrible in my opinion Rock 104.5 always played a great mix of old and new as well as song that most rock stations wouldnt touch. Critisize me if you want but I am going to miss listening to the free bee and hot wings show at night They are one of the best shows I have heard on the radio in a long time I started listening the night I moved to Wilmington and I have not stopped since. This is sad I can't remember any one time in my life where so many format changes have occured in such a short period of time in one place, worse is the fact that with the exception of The Hawk wich is Cumulus and The Big Talker moving to 93.7 and the Bone now only on 103.7 wich is Sea Comm the vast majority of format changes in or around the port city have been nextmedia's doing

Proof? I don't have proof other than what I've heard and that is WILL 98.7 will become WILL 104.5, and 98.7 will become Spanish. I'd say my source is close enough to the situation to know what they are talking about.

Ok ...I agree with what Radiocult has posted {the ones that are still here}......Meximedia has lost the BEST RADIO PERSONALITY in the bizz!....From what I have listened to they should have put JT on the morning show with Tina. There would be a great morning show. {Atlest better then the "Two Guys named Chris"} Sorry; :-* Tina but{IMO} Fonz ain't helping your cause.

JT.....how in the world could Meximedia let him of all people go? He "IS" the ROCK in Rock 104.5... JT is the best DJ they have or will ever have! He brings so many listeners to the station, he lives for the radio and for the station, and this is the way they pay him back? Sounds like a great place to work......"NOT"!!!!

Carter......all I have to say to you is "RATINGS DON"T LIE!"

Dave......THIS IS Cliff......Told you before that I'm NOT AND NEVER HAVE BEEN RADIOCULT!!! ::)

People need to remember one important thing in live. "If you don't like something, then change it. If you can't change it......then change your attitude!"

From a previous entry, yes, Tina is from Ohio. Jerry Mac brought her down here to help change WRQR around from the low state it was in. (They used to work together up there at CC) According to the most recent ratings, it was starting to make a positive change. So, she was doing the job she was hired for. Next just never gave it a real chance. But my question is, why did Next keep her on when she's only been here since Oct. 2007, and Doug & JT got the boot? Shouldn't they have been given a chance too, especially seniority-wise? But I guess it shows, it's not what you've done or how long you've been there; it's who you know & what you do with those connections :-*. I'm not saying she doesn't do her job, but it makes you wonder what's going on there when they can just toss those dj's to the side & think nothing of it. Business is business, hmmm...

First of all, thanks radioheel for spelling my name right! And, thanks for the kind words.

I spent six great years working for Rock 104.5 with Ocean Broadcasting and loved EVERY minute of it. Most of those included my pal JT as night jock and promotions director.

While I understand the "Next-bashing", I will never understand the need to bash good people like JT. I do understand that there are people who get their feelings hurt for one reason or another and feel compelled to take it out on others, but taking it out on a company is one thing... When it's personal, that's kind of bush league.

I have worked with some great people over the years and JT will always be near the top of that list. His NUMBER ONE concern is/was the voice of our listeners and whether or not we are/were meeting their needs. We didn't always see eye-to-eye, but I would rather disagree with someone who cared than agree with someone that didn't. JT's only mistake is that he loves Wilmington.

JT will come out on top in this because some people within the industry in Wilmington recognize a valuable employee when they find one.

So, that said... flame on!

Gregg Stepp

Speaking of rock here is a question I forgot to ask in my initial post. Why is Surf 98.3 WSFM almost impossible to pick up? I do not live in downtown Wilmington but I am in the city limits. I cannot get them on any of my home stareos, same goes for my parents house in Leland but when I am out in the car Surf comes in crystal clear, What gives? ???

While I'm here, I guess I can help on this one...

The more "mass appeal" Channel Z needed a stronger signal to compete in the market. Unfortunately, that had to happen at the expense of Surf's coverage. The revenue potential of Channel Z is theoretically greater than Surf, and the signal strength is a huge selling point.

Here's what the coverage maps look like these days...

WSFM- http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WSFM&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

Well said Greg

It's Gregg. ;D

Agreed though. Stepp pretty much nailed it about good ole' J.T. I don't know if I've ever been around a more selfless person in this business. It was never about him, it was about the listeners. I'm really hoping Perry Stone and John Stevens can find some money in the budget to get him on the Hawk. Wilmington needs his voice on the airwaves and behind the scenes.

Radioheel...I was crackN' on the spellin'.....Gregg thanked you for spellin' it right....I just had ta misspell it.. ;D.just my humor.. ::)

100000watts.com has reported a call letter swap. WSSM 105.1 Havelock now has the WRQR calls, while 104.5 Wilmington now has the WSSM calls. I have not listened to 104.5 yet but the earlier post mentioning adult hits going to 104.5 makes sense as 105.1 Havelock is the same format. I think the format change could come before April 1st and I wonder if 104.5 will pick up the adult hits format while 98.7 goes spanish, or is something else comeing that is unexpected.
