UPDATE: KABL Ending Tuesday

In case you hadn't read this farther down the page, DyingMedium noted -- and it has been confirmed -- that Clear Channel is ending its agreement to program KABL on 92.1 on Tuesday (July 26), with Coast Radio taking possession on Wednesday.

Sad indeed - the last class act on the radio - hats off to them

The music reportedly will continue, jockless on their website.

Anyone know whereabouts the station will be located?

That was my question since I listen on line. KABL is a great
sounding station, what a shame for the listeners in S.F.
Anyone know what wonderful programing the new owners will
air?

I wonder how long Clear Channel will continue the KABL Adult Standards stream online ... my guess is until they think nobody cares any more.

As noted in other posts (lower on this board), the new 92.1 will presumably follow the lead of co-owned KKIQ and KUIC, with a hometown-oriented AC format. The station will operate out of KKIQ's studios in Pleasanton, which are located in an office building on the perimeter of Stoneridge Mall.

Did I hear right? KKIQ and KUIC both owned by CC?

No, the new owner of 92.1 owns KKIQ and KUIC.

AC I guess. Only people in Walnut Creek will hear it.

Sorry about that. I saw the thread on Coast buying 92.1. At least Cheap Channel doesn't own that station anymore.

Actually they never "owned" it. It was an LMA and actually owned by Chase, whose business model seems to be that of being a babysitter for Clear-Channel formats. Once the KSJO network was dismantled, Clear Channel probably had no plan for it.

The 92.1 signal can never be a metro-area signal. Aside from its being a class A signal, there's the matter of the East Bay terrain and the hills separating Oakland and Berkeley from the inland areas. I live fewer than eight miles away from the transmitter and I can't even get it very well, due to the terrain. Coast's business model of intensely local radio should be ideally suited for the signal. Now whether that means there will be weekend traffic reports every 10 minutes from Broadway Plaza (sponsored by Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti dealers in Walnut Creek and Concord) may be another thing!

KABL ends on 92.1 at midnight tonight! Then what happens at 92.1? And at the Salinas AM Station with the KABL calls?

Well ask and you will know! The Station at 1460 in Salinas will remain KABL
with the same great music as will the online webcast. Question answered!

Which leads to one more question: has anyone heard what the new call letters will be at 92.1? I haven't heard a top-of-hour ID yet to see if the station has changed calls.
