Actually they never "owned" it. It was an LMA and actually owned by Chase, whose business model seems to be that of being a babysitter for Clear-Channel formats. Once the KSJO network was dismantled, Clear Channel probably had no plan for it.
The 92.1 signal can never be a metro-area signal. Aside from its being a class A signal, there's the matter of the East Bay terrain and the hills separating Oakland and Berkeley from the inland areas. I live fewer than eight miles away from the transmitter and I can't even get it very well, due to the terrain. Coast's business model of intensely local radio should be ideally suited for the signal. Now whether that means there will be weekend traffic reports every 10 minutes from Broadway Plaza (sponsored by Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti dealers in Walnut Creek and Concord) may be another thing!
