Update on KAHM and KKFR???

I wanted to know if KAHM 102.1 FM was now reaching the Northwest part of Phoenix, it has a construction permit to cut into the Phoenix marketplace,

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KAHM&service=FM&status=C&hours=U,,

the reason I asked is cause KKFR was suppose to change formats to easy listening, on New years Day, this according to wikipedia,

On January 1, 2013, KKFR will be changing its format to Easy Listening, at the same time steering away from its current format, based on a survey done of several hundred residents in the Phoenix radio marketplace. It is hoped that this change will once again bring KKFR back into one of the top spots for music listenership in that area.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KKFR

the only problem with this, is that easy listening music is NOT a popular format, it would work on public radio maybe, but i dont think with 2 stations playing easy listening music would work if indeed KAHM signal now reaches into certain parts of Phoenix, KKFR would be taking an extremely risky move doing this, and I dont think Riveria broadcasting group has the same hold on that group of listeners as KAHM does, as KAHM has been doing this for decades,

Mr Akbar what do you think?

I also noticed that KKFR, has NOT changed formats yet, maybe because of KAHM probably moving into parts of Phoenix.

Anyone can edit a Wikipedia entry (biggest drawback to using it as any kind of source material). Given how stilted the language is in the passage about the supposed format change and the lack of a source for the information, I'm betting that's what happened. As soon as KKFR finds out about it, it'll be gone.

I really try hard not to think as it hurts what grey matter the fez conceals. And it's Dr. Akbar...I spent a lot of money getting that correspondence degree from Paraguay!

As far as two Elevator Music stations go...that would put a lot of listeners asleep and pose a public health hazard. Imagine how boring the 10 o'clock TV news would be if Sheriff Joe and Greg Stanton were too tired to get in front of cameras. YIKES!

So stay calm (KAHM) because Riviera wont fire (KKFR) its hip-hoppers and press the up button on the elevator.

How did we survive the days of both KRFM/KQYT and KMEO?

Did the elevator music stations have radio wars where they would fight over who played Mantovani first?

Throw in KBUZ and the Lumberyard's very own KDOT as well. And since they, along with KMEO, were AM/FM simulcasts, how about that great sound of elevator music on Ancient Modulation? The Sacred Granny Demos were very well-served. ;D

No, but their syndicators would rush to be the first with a custom instrumental cover of each Top 40 hit.

It wasn't all that bad. I always liked the Boston Pops playing the Beatles songbook.

But remember....KAHM plays to Prescott and the NW Valley (specifically Sun City) where bunches of mellow ...uh..... "oldsters" live. Assuming they are no longer into KOOL's definition of Oldies they most probably are tuned in to KAHM.

And...living in the northern part of town and having spent significant Prescott time I have to give KAHM credit. They're very inventive within their format. The occasional fairly tasty jazz/smooth jazz track will pop up along with relatively recent movie and TV themes. It sounds to me like they're keeping their ears open for stuff that fits, and it's a much better listen musically than KMEO or KQYT were 25 years ago.

My mother loved KMEO 740 in her 1971 sky blue Pinto with an AM radio, at least until sunset. :)

hmmm...sounds like the World's Most Interesting Man is now in the demo. YIKES!

I don't always listen to elevator music, but when I do...

Stay breathing, my friends.

sorry Dr Akbar, I usually use the abbr: MR, sorry if it offended you.

This might be the most amusing and silly thread so far this year. Why would switch KKFR when its currently enjoying its highest ratings in PPM and actually slightly ahead of KZON and KZZP in its 18-34 target demo?
