Update on KFI

Any idea when KFI will be back to full-power operation??

Work may begin as early as December……..the shiny new BE 50kw will be arriving at Montecito Heights some time this week and will serve as the interim 640 transmitter site while the new tower is erected. Montecito is the old KRKD AM 1150 site, where there is still a nice tower standing, but on land with lower conductivity.

Did they get approval to erect a tower comperable to their old one at the same site? Last I heard (several months ago), the FAA was balking because that was a flight path and a 700 foot tower couldn't possibly work any longer.

It is about 100 feet shorter, with a massive top hat to keep it electrically 180 degrees.

So will it have the same strength as before?

Ever since the accident, the signal does not penetrate into the downtown LA financial district, among others. Buildings clearly interfere.

It should be virtually the same signal as before. A minimal amount of top loading will not affect the radiation efficiency enough to be noticed.
