Update on WASO

I am in L.A. and I have been follwing what has been happening in NOLA. I knew that WASO was put back on the air to send out information about St. Tammany Parish. Has WASO gone silent again, and what is its final fate?

According to the FCC records it is silent due to lack of funds. It appears there are lots of owners involved (stockholders?) and might be hard to sell due to that fact. I would like to buy it though :D

This might shed some light on WASO...it's a link from the US Department of Justice. Pretty much gives you an idea Namer's in some deep debris!

So, how much do you think 720 is worth ($5Mil, say)?

And what would one do with it.

By the way, www.hottalkradio.com is still running. What IS Namer doing with it???

It's 730am, and $6mil can buy a 80kw C2 FM rimshot (A citadel deal that fell thru for KLRZ 100.3) but with 2 other Am's on the market (WFNO and WGSO)and a third in Thibodaux in limbo (that was reported for sale at $285k? but one of the owners valued at $1.2 mil and it's a 5kw station) For me personally would be hard to guess...but my guess is $150-$200k max...biggest winner is it being in one of the top 5 parishes in growth in Louisiana ..what kills it is 250 watts day/25 watt nights power ratings. Main reason I valued it higher than I should have was the fact that it's in St. Tammany.... If say it was in northern Louisiana, it would value IMO only at $100k or so (as other Amers with same power in Louisiana are trying to sell for $100-$125k)

Probably aim it as a talk station focusing in on the New Orleans Northshore. Something like "St. Tammany's News and Talk station WASO 730" or if the FCC would grant a power increase But I figure it would have to protect New Orleans (KKNO) would be "The Florida Parishes' News/Talker WASO"

But first thing would be an investigation on a power increase to max possible. probably directional to the North to get the gain

Posting his opinions on the net that he was putting forth on WASO before apparently... It seems to be updated pretty much every weekday with his comments but his promised 24/7 web broadcast must have went with the station. Supposedly on one of the links, it has a link to listen live during the day to Namer but I don't know if he's streaming or not however.. Supridingly for having everything tied up, he still has people willing to give him operating funds for the site.

According to Radio-Locator.com WASO has a great signal in New Orleans, is that for real?

It took a while for me to find it as the station is off the air.
http://www.radio-locator.com/pats/WASO_AM_LD.gif for 250w daytime
http://www.radio-locator.com/pats/WASO_AM_LN.gif for 25w night

But WASO did put a usable signal I know here on the bayou (In Thibodaux it could be heard on a car radio and was listenable)... But remember, static crashes, loss of the station in Office buildings, and the such that plague AM radio normally , made this a NOLA rimshot IMO...

Also the map does fool you... The main signal that you see in red in New Orleans is actually the signal which gets carried over Lake Ponchitrain, as the maps most of the search people use, don't show the difference between the land and water so the signal that looks so great on paper is mainly over the lake... I know the map the FCC uses from tiger.census.gov actually places the dot for Kenner in the middle of the Lake.

As I said, I think it's a better northshore property than a southshore station..

Indeed, appearantly this night time map does also...
