UPDATE ON WKTF 1550 in Vienna

The classic country/bluegrass/western swing music that was on WKTF 1550 is gone as of Friday and has been replaced by Salem Music Network's "Solid Gospel" .

The station is only running 1000 Watts and not the licensed 10,000.

Nope, not at all... no technical or equipment failure or malfunction.

Conserving power? Protesting Obama's election? Can't read what the power meter says? Not enough load coming into building? Faulty transformer on a power pole? Laziness?

No, no,no, no, no and no.

A format change due to staff and ownership issues.

EDIT: I read things wrong, I thought you were talking about the change in format.... as I said, that was due to a staff and ownership issue.

The transmitter has reportedly blown some major parts.

I understand it to be a Harris MW 10. That being the case, Harris does not support that transmitter anymore. OOPS! Should have gotten a Nautel instead.

I have a Harris MW10A for sale right now if they need parts

I think the same thing that's wrong with WKTF's transmitter is what's wrong with yours Woody, it wouldn't do them any good.

Or they could have just spent a little extra money and purchased the Nautel that would have fit in the same footprint of the Harris MW1A that was there or the Gates BC1T that was there (using the other as a backup/nighttime transmitter) without tearing the transmitter room apart. Instead they got cheap and purchased a transmitter that's no longer supported and are stuck when it starts giving them problems. People never cease to amaze me.

I think if I owned a station in Vienna, I would image it as WKTF AM 1550 "The Sausage" !!!

Are you kidding? When I tell people I'm from Vienna Georgia they ask me if that is where they make the sausage. I tell them "Yea, my daddy owns the factory"! However, instructing new reporters at WALB and WMAZ the proper way to pronounce "Cairo", "Vienna", "Unadilla" and "Houston" got kinda old.

I can imagine it would... Cairo and Vienna are pronounced very differently depending on what state those towns are in.

Not to mention "Clito," "Villa Rica," "Martinez," or "Rincon."
