UPDATE! WFMF/Kraddick now OFF LPB's DTV stations statewide

For the past 5 days or so, at least on the LPB affiliate that I monitor primarily, WFMF Baton Rouge has been removed from LPB's #2 audio channel. For over a year LPB was in violation of FCC regs by broadcasting WFMF (owned by Clear Channel) on their #2 audio channel, which anyone could hear if they received LPB/PBS with an antenna for their HDTVs; spots, promos, contests and all broadcast on public television.

Thanks to zumahans and clichemoth and others for recognizing the illegality of the situation.

Thanks to everyone who joined me in insisting that LPB rectify this situation and no longer allow corporate Clear Channel to continue to be a parasite and piggyback their B.R. signal statewide. ;D

They should put KLSU on it. Who thought putting WFMF on made any sense?

But remember the ONLY!!!!! reason WFMF was on LPB was because they're the flagship EAS for the state. This was posted months ago by someone in-the-know.

This was a way to assure statewide EAS alerts go through. The original method of hopping it across the state over-the-air from WFMF to KTDY up to KZMZ (alt KQID) then to KNOE, and KXKZ to KWKH(KRUF-FM?) was unrealible and a relic from long ago.

If ONE of the station's EAS units in the hopping chain didn't forward correctly, or, if there's noisy reception in one of the links, alerts and/or tests would fail to make it to every city. The other La stations not mentioned above monitor from this chain of stations.

Now, (I think all of) the LP1 stations in each major city have receivers tuned to their local LPB-TV to directly receive WFMF EAS messages and State Required Monthly Tests. Much more reliable.

This is the "Conspiracy" you rally against.

Perhaps there will be a better method of doing this in the future. Prompted by the hurricane Mississippi has been adding to & redesigning their emergency alert system, hopefully Louisiana will do so as well....

Re: UPDATE! They're back on again.

After being off for more than two weeks, suddenly WFMF Baton Rouge has reappeared on the #2 audio channel of LPB's DTV stations. Once again LPB (PBS) is in violation of FCC regs by allowing this Clear Channel station to be a parasite and piggyback a Baton Rouge station on LPB TV stations statewide.

For two weeks plus there was just white noise, now they are back.
