No real new stations from Big tymer's list from what I can tell other than WVUE TV is broadcasting again at low power (I can catch it on the bayou)

RFLA

Admittedly by remote-control from San Antonio, here's what I understand:

Channel 4 is on their own tower as-normal.

Everyone else is on the monster LodeStar/SpectraSite/AmericanTower/YourNameHere tower in Algiers:
Channel 6 is sending video to channel 49's analog carrier.
Channel 8 is broadcasting from a temp antenna on the tower.
Channel 26 is using channel 20's carrier for a portion of the day.
Channels 36 and 38 are also splitting Paxson's (49) DT carrier, supposedly to hit cable head-ends.
URBNO (93.3, 98.5 and 101.9) are (is?) on the ATC master antenna as-normal.

Off-site AMs operating include KGLA, WODT, WYLD and of course 'L. URBNO's quasi-IDs include WSMB, but I was not able to copy 1350 anywhere on last weekend's trip back home.

Stations I am curious about:

600 - tower on the river-side of the levee in Metairie.
1450 - self-support tower along the river in Metairie.
750 - shares KGLA's 1540 Westbank tower.
800 - also Westbank, just up the road from 870.
94.3/104.5 - Tower in West Point a La Hache. Reports of 104.5 operating post-storm may indicate use of an aux antenna somewhere in NOLA.
106.7 - Tower in Delacroix. The one spot along LA 300 with no sat. pix. :-(

Thanks for the information..I can update on 3 of them

800 WSHO finally is transmitting audio... URBNO apparently when I just checked

1450 WBYU is back to transmitting Radio Disney as usual...

104.5 is on the air and my guess is in Plaqumines as I'm getting a pretty good signal (Normal signal stregth I get from them). Reports are Plaqumines is starting to get power.... Signal didn't come back for over a week after the storm however... Plus no jocks or ads last time I airchecked(week ago)..I'm just wondering where the computer is running this thing

Yeah I've been wondering about 106.7 myself as It should have basically taken the brunt of it. I also wonder because currently Citadel's operation here in town is all over. WDVW 92.3 is just relaying 103.3 from Baton Rouge (with a new announcement to the effect with John McQueen sitting in with the normal Capital City morning crew the morning I listened.... 106.1 which they just bought is reportedly running Dowdy's Northshore broadcast and newly purchased 100.3 KLRZ is still playing swamp pop

My biggest question is when URBNO is gonna go and be replaced by normal programming....

Did you see the damage to Entercom's studios on wwl.com? I'm think United Radio will be around for a bit longer.

I heard the Citadel studios in NO suffered major damage, So its likely they will either run from Baton Rouge or simocast for awhile.
______________

Not until now when you told me.... thanks for the heads up

Garland was on the air that morning of the storm and had to run to the hallway with a mic to keep broadcasting cause the windows were blowing out while he was on the air.

Entercon can get something together even if it's thrown together somewhere's else for the time being. But right now, apparently it's still wise for URBNO to help the victims of the storm.

I wonder if anyone ever thought of putting plywood over windows INSIDE the building before the storm (especially in large and multi-story buildings where putting them up outside would be impossible)? The windows would still break, though it might keep the winds out of the building.
Edited by rugrats1 on 09/17/05 05:12 PM.

Any predictions on how long it will take until regular programming starts sprinkling in, or when some stations may go back on the air, such as 106.7?
______________

That's what we are all trying to figure out... I'd say at least end of the month maybe more (as they have gone from news to recovery information basically)..Biggest thing is new studios will have to be built for some stations elsewhere (such as with entercon, owner of WWL 870 among others)

106.7 is outta commission for a good while, reported in a post above, the transmitter took a 12 foot post thru the building... Unless a portable building is set up and wired to the tower (and with almost no power in St.Benard parish which the Times Picayune says is 1%) Don't look for 106.7 soon unless it is moved to another frequency or the FCC grants Citadel a waiver and allowed to put a transmitter setup closer to the city......
