Updates on Affiliation Switch from CBS News Radio Closure.

KELY got recommended on Reddit and maybe a few other places. I tried listening to it but had to listen to WTOP because KELY's stream crashed. Maybe that should make me happy though. Means enough people cared about CBS Radio to try listening to KELY, so much so that it crashed.

I question the historical special that aired before the Studio 9 one on KELY. Im not sure if I can mention the title of it. It was a CBS Feature Project from 1954 about the Bracero program, called "The Wet****s". The slang word was used constantly throughout. It really made me cringe, despite the quality of reporting.

Yes I heard that too. I was kinda stunned the station chose that.

I was the only one to mention KOZI FM on beautiful Lake Chelan...they only run the TOH news from CBS, but they have been on the network for many years. They have a good mix of soft rock music regardless. Very local, with the 2nd Cup of Coffee show weekday mornings (local discussion and a swap shop if I recall?)
Taped 9PM and 11PM ET from them. Glad to have them both on tape.

As an aside, we (Houston) had not had CBS News Radio since probably 2013, when KIKK 650 became a CBS Sports Radio affiliate. It's kind of strange that we just didn't get it at all, considering that even NYC got a new affiliate (WBBR) after WCBS went under.

Listened to the final TOH broadcast on KELY stream and the final news broadcast on the WTOP stream. Props to those stations for sticking through and honoring CBS News Radio to the very end. An emotional night for all of us, for sure. So many of those names and voices have become so familiar to me.

WPTF in Raleigh, a longtime CBS Radio News affiliate and where I listened for many years, switched to Townhall News this afternoon.

Good night and good luck to you all.

KTRH left CBS for ABC at a fairly early time, as I recall. That happened after I left KTRH in 1986. Those CBS stringer checks were sure nice, and my voice was on the network from time to time. Back then, KTRH was a real news station, not the extreme-right propaganda outlet that it's become.

WJEJ has switched to running Salem News for now. Lou Scally talked about it on the beginning of today’s Phone Party with a caller. Lou said they couldn’t get ABC News Radio because a station in DC has an exclusive contract. Former CBS News Radio correspondent John Hartge then called in:
Salem?! I can't believe they chose them. I just lost some respect for WJEJ. I was hoping they would go with NBC or iHeart 24/7, if not ABC. Believe me, they'll be getting an email from me, regarding this.. Lol

Yeah, I just heard it. Nice that it was done as a CBS special report, instead of a regular news update. Just plain sad 😢

The "Good night, and good luck" special is very well done!
The iHeart page with podcasts of CBS News Radio newscasts has the special as well...with no commercials in the breaks. Runs about 40 minutes.

I can, since the station is for sale and they couldn’t get ABC News Radio. I was kind of surprised Lou Scally thinks AP radio news is defunct, when it isn’t.

KIVA (1600) Albuquerque appears to have replaced its CBS newscasts with ... nothing.

I mean, nothing. Dead air. Rien. Nada. Niets.

KIVA aired the final CBS News Radio casts in the 9 pm (Mountain) hour last night in their usual slots. So far, so good.

At 10 pm, KIVA's automation ran the station's legal ID, as usual, and threw to the network, as usual.

Heard next: "Bong!"

Then nothing. Totaling almost five minutes of dead air.

I listened again this morning (May 23). In the TOH slot: five minutes of silence.

The other interesting thing: where did that "bong" come from at 1 am Eastern time? An automated insertion process at CBS that hadn't been shut down yet? The ghost of Edward R. Murrow having a last laugh?
