UPGRADES APROVED

KAMA and KFNC, I think.

104.9/KAMA applied to move COL to Deer Park and upgrade to a C2, while 97.5/KFNC applied to change COL to Mont Belvieu with no facility change (it's just to move the station out of the Beaumont market... on paper, anyway)

[Edit] Nope, it wasn't KFNC. KAMA was issued the CP last week, but KFNC got theirs in 2007. I can't seem to find the second mystery station.

I remember when a city of license used to mean something.
Actually it did. Now its just a technicality that group owners can play with to their advantage.

So will the KAMA signal improve with the change in C.O.L? A quick question i remember some one told me once that 106.5 was a better signal then 104.9 but, i have tuned in to Recuerdo on 106.5 and it doesnt sound as clear as other stations.

104.9 should be better....eventual plans are to make it a C1 out at MoCity...if possible.....106.5 is a better signal overall....1200ft and 100KW vs the 1000ft and lower power (3-7KW) of 104.9....but 104.9 is downtown; their "upgrade" moves their main to the 102.9 tower on Ennis Street....where their AUX has been...ehhhh not much difference in coverage...106.5 is SOUTH of town (like almost Santa Fe!)....106.5 is a class C channel so it can improve to 2000ft if it wants which it has a CP for....BTW KAMA's upgrade was filed for in 2002 and approved in 2007. KOVE applied and got approved for a full C upgrade in 2006 as well (increasing the tower from 1200 to 2000ft)

Is KLTN also changing COL?

I tought that the deal included KLTN changing from "Houston" to "Missoury City". Pelochas? CW? any smart engineer? As you notice, I am a novice at this whole engineering stuff, but it interests me enough. Also, I'm too lazy to go through the FCC webpage.

Johnny, let me field that one...the answer is no. The application was basically canceled because they realized it wasn't necessary, since KBRZ 1460 had changed COL from Freeport to Missouri City. And to echo what Willis1000 said, it isn't as much about engineering as it is about perpetuating the ruse that's known as "community of license" (as in KAMA moving a few blocks and suddenly becoming a Deer Park station).

Ahhh patience grasshopper!!! After the move to C2, they can then make plans to upgrade to a C1....and then maybe try to move it to MoCity...even though its current location is good for its format....The change of COL is something to do just to get it "moved" to a new city (since Deer Park I dont think had a primary aural service before)..A C2 upgrade increases their protected service contour and keeps other stations CO or ADJ channel from moving in or upgrading that could lock them in....(as 102.9 is). They probably could not increase power downtown due to RF radiation issues on the building..on a 1000ft tower, not a problem!!!

not to mention that we dont have to pay an arm and a leg to lease on that lil 10 by 20 space on Wells Fargo Tower that isnt cheap and also you dont have to jump thru hoops to get access to that roof level even if its an emergency

the upgraded 1049 IMHO is better than 1065 if you are near the downtown but 1065 has so much more coverage when it goes 2k' tower, but dont ask me when!

OK, then here is this question, when will you start the moving process accross the freeway?
